I took the console apart and it was an easy enough fix. One of the springs on the inside of the cover wasn't properly connected so I connected it and also cleaned the dust out. The button works nicely and disc door opens and closes with no issues now.
Thankfully it reads discs perfectly. Playing Xenosaga ep II now.
The console came with a cool looking see-through blue official controller.
It would've sucked if someone else had bought it and didn't wanna take apart the PS2

Nice work.
I ended up taking apart my slim PS2 not long after purchase due to a weak eject mechanism. With a small mechanical modification, it has since opened with borderline excessive force.

That sounds like the same problem this one had. I had a PS1 slim with kinda the same problem as well.
It's those tiny little springs. They can kinda be a bitch to handle. I used a screwdriver to reconnect it.

I try to avoid buying used consoles personally, way too many people have roaches and shit that hitch a ride inside their electronics

if you opened it up though its probably ok and clear of any critters

Just dust and a somewhat long piece of hair that I took out.

Had to deal with a dud disc tray a couple of times with my old one, it had come off the gear that moves it.

This is why we should support right to repair and also learn a little about our devices. Many times the fix isn't that expensive or difficult. We're not talking about reballing an overcooked CPU. Swapping a disc drive, cleaning a switch or contacts, replace a power supply, a quick dusting, lots of consoles could be saved from the trash. Hell, that's why I still have a functional launch day PS2 and 60gb PS3.

I have literally bought around 200 used consoles and never noticed this.

Right to repair raises prices, especially from production costs. I do support it from a ecological standpoint.

Nothing wrong with buying used. I mean you're not exactly going to buying new old consoles anyway. When they are cheap it's not big deal. I'll be buying myself another PS2 at some point as my old one died.

$60 Canadian. Really it's not bad considering it came with 2 memory cards, 2 controllers (One of which has a cool design that I've never seen before) and GTA San Andreas.
They're going for about $120 on Amazon Canada.

Nice, but make sure it can read dual layer dvd discs. I one bought one of the small used ps2's from gamestop and it worked fine until I found it couldn't read the 2nd layer of a dvd movie. While most ps2 games weren't on dual layer dvd's, there were still some like that. I had to return it.
