People are saying that it undoes the fact that they are nobody and I kind of agree.

It's not hard to believe that Palpatine slept around even after his disfiguration but would he be sleeping with some junker on a backwater planet?

That'd be like Donald Trump sleeping with a greeter from the Omaha Target.

didnt they go cloning? a younger palpatine with no force running around the empire to be a vessel of sorts. escapes the inevitable to be hunted like he was in TROS.

The sequel trilogy was poorly planned and executed even worse, my guy. Could have been the greatest story in the franchise. Instead, it falls behind even the sequels. I'm just talking about the story, put your gun away Solo. The prequels were awful of course but the narrative was better than the sequel trilogy.

The sequels and prequels are opposite one another. One weird and camp with a decent narrative, the other well directed and visually stunning but with the consistency of a runny egg.

And then, right in the middle, is the original trilogy. Just the right blend of each. A delicious fucking omelet.

Hated what? The sequel trilogy? Every word of what you just said was wrong. Two of the sequels are movies I really like, but that doesn't mean I can't acknowledge one of them is really stupid. And even though I'm not very fond of the middle film, I'll still watch it. I will not watch the prequels. Any movie from the ST > any movie from the PT.

As stupid and inconsistent as the sequel trilogy is, this wasn't what happened. Palpatine had a son with whoever, and after his son had Rey, the soon took his family to Jakku to hide from Palpatine.

The way the did the twist in the Last Jedi sounded like Kylo was just trying to piss Rey off, which fit her character and her insecurities about who she was, but was also done in a way you could easily say Kylo was pulling **** out of his ass trying piss Rey off. Which worked.

I'm not particularly happy that Rey has important family either, but the way they did it in no way made me think they would totally welch on Rey being nobody.

They also could have made the connection better, but thats really on RoS being a mess altogether.

In the movie's defense, the person who revealed to Rey in TLJ that her parents were nobodies was Kylo Ren, a guy who isn't entirely trustworthy. Also, Rey's primary motivation was actually *finding* her parents, not their status and identity as rich people (IIRC), and that she was never going to see them again is a concept that goes back to TFA, continued in TLJ, and confirmed plus ultra in RoS. Had RoS been competently and thoughtfully put together, there's no reason these disparate elements couldn't have worked - Rey's never going to see her parents again, Kylo is a liar, she is a Palpatine - even if its ultimately a stretch (like the big plot twists of Empire and RoJ). It feels like a retcon because that's the only dance move the movie knows.

They almost did the same story that Empire did, Vader was trying to lure Luke to him and its revealed hes his evil father.

In Rise of Skywalker Palpatine is revealed to be her evil grandfather but had sent Kylo to go kill her. Then she makes the choice to go find him.

Its just crappier.
