I made a topic like this awhile back, but just curious of peoples thoughts. Today's poll has under 10k votes. This same question posted back in 2009 has 99k votes! Do you think GFAQs is actually "dying"? There is very obviously far less people on this site these days >.> but I don't see it ever actually dying.

This site'so structure was obsolete 10 years ago. They've tried to add new features, but it was already too late by then.

I forget the name of it, but there was a plugin or addon that increased site functionality, but they'd always break it.

Yeah it has barely changed since it first started. I think this was one of the first websites I ever visited as a kid on the families Windows 98 . Seems like most people on here are in their 30s (I'm getting there) but the younger generations use reddit, YouTube, etc.

EDIT: Wow, I'm really late to this party, but I just now realized they changed the domain name too!

I think it was called Game Fox or something? I remember that, it made the site way better.

The Internet "changed" around 10 years ago. Demographics shifted from web 1.0 technologies (forums, xmpp, irc, ect.) to web 2.0 technologies (social media, cloud services). This happened between the years of 2007 and 2012.

You mean 10 years ago more people went to the front page instead of linking to the boards and thus bypassing polls completely? Yeah, I can see that happening, especially since people care less about polls than ever before thanks to Gamefaqs allowing these contests to be rigged by outside groups. Between that and people not going to the front page, I'm surprised that even fewer people aren't responding. Instead of 90% not voting, I'd expect it to be 95%+

Haha ok that could be part of it, but all around games also have far less topics on the boards I've noticed. Even new games that come out, some of the boards are just ghost towns. Not to mention it straight up shows you how many users are on the boards at any time and it's pretty low.

That's always been true for a lot of games. Only the huge games seem to get large amounts of traffic.

Was talking specifically about today's poll of the day, but it's essentially EVERY poll. I made this same topic a few months back and it was the same thing. A question posted 10 years ago had 10x as many votes as the same question posted in 2020.

I spose, but activity is still down all around. I remember the smash bros brawl board having over 100k topics when it was in it's prime. Certainly no board will ever come close to that again.

Pretty much. The site got left in the dust around 2008. But even in say 2004 the site was pretty old looking then.

As of this post there are 2328 active users on right now. 9703 people voted in the poll. Looking at the website analytics you can clearly see the site has been on the decline for years.

The weird thing too is that maybe people are less interested in writing text-based walkthroughs of games since people are way more likely to watch a video.

I know GameFAQs has fewer users these days, but I'll also add that I'm still here but I stopped caring about the poll many years ago. I don't even see them anymore, I skip right past the homepage.

Hell I even loved doing the polls but I come here on mobile 99% of the time and the poll on mobile is like in the middle of the page, on an actual pc it was always nice and right in your face to do. That being said, its pretty clear the site is losing traffic with how much the forums move slower and so many other sources for guides like YouTube.

Welp poll numbers have been dropping every year apparently and not exactly by a small amount. Today's poll in 2015 had double the votes(22k). Today's poll in 2012 had 4x the votes (44k).

I've never had the Gamefaqs home page bookmarked, always the boards homepage. So when they removed the daily poll from the boards home page, I quit voting every day. Now, I bother to vote maybe 1 or 2 times a week.

there was several, i think the most notable, since it's more recent, was xfaqs
