Why bother, considering that won't actually help?

Realistically, we'd have to lock down even harder, and stay closed until like November to really get to grips with this thing.

Fun fact, the hospitals didnt get overcrowded and by slowly phasing back to normalcy they wont either. Even in NYC the worst area hit the overflow hospitals were barely used and the hospital ship they sent out there just left because it wasnt getting used.

People like us who can do our jobs from home are probably going to be the last to actually go back to "work" since we aren't that impacted. Makes more sense to open up businesses that are actually hurting due to lock-down first.

Well yea but I'm speaking from what I'm seeing.
And I don't see Massachusetts opening any time soon. Cases are still high and opening now would make the situation worse and I'm happy that some people see that, despite the fact that it is hurting a lot of less well off people.

Okay but a killer disease does not care about this.

This whole fiasco is a testament to how shitty our system is. Other countries aren't having these issues.

You're right but similarly the "system" doesnt care about a killer disease, so something has to give. Both options, lockdown or opening, condemns different people in different ways. Ideally the system would change over night to accommodate everyone but that's not a reality.

At least in the case of milk, don't worry, unless they start culling the dairy cows there will always be more tomorrow. That's the problem with milk right now. The cows keep making it, you can't really store it for long, even refrigerated, and there aren't really any shelf-stable methods where it remains...milky.

You and I have drastically different ideas of "a decent amount of time" when stocking the pantry then.

And condensed milk is a poor substitute for a bowl of cereal to say the least.

Grains can be dried or made into flour. Nuts are fine for a very long time. Fruits and veg can be canned, jarred, or dehydrated.

Even fish can be canned or dried, same for meats.

But dairy in just about any form except for certain cheeses is about as perishable as it gets. Unless you have your own milk cow, dairy is the first thing to go when foods turn.

That's after treatment though. Processing, packaging, and then distribution/storage are all needed and that all costs money. The milk that's being dumped is raw, that's not suitable to store or give away.

Yep. Technically, they never stopped working. Because of my position, I was able to basically get nearly a month off (paid). I did got to work for a week (three days) when they quarantined all three people on day shift. But once they found out they were sick, they were able to come back, and I was sent home again. Kind of like a back-up for that exact situation...
