From what I have been told, working in hospitals generally are pretty busy so this mustve been during some quiet periods

Its takes a little bit of practice before you do the filming since they are generally pretty syncronised. Only time people generally goof off like this at the workplace is if work is slow and they are just trying to pass the time. What gives? I thought especially now that hospitals would be a lot more busier than usual. Or were these tiktok nurses just night shift nurses and all patients were asleep? Even then shouldnt they be quiet since you wouldnt want to be waking up patients for no reasons

First of all, why do you even care? Second, they most likely make them on a lunch break/personal break. It also depends on where the hospital is and how well their area has contained the virus/how many people they have in the area/etc. Hospital nursing can be quite stressful at times and making a dumb internet video probably helps keep things a bit lighter. I don't understand the point of this thread honestly.

Definitely but I just cant understand how and when these videos can be made unless maybe there was a lot of downtime. Im just curious

And it cant be on a lunch break. Nurses go on break in intervals. Cant all go on break at the same time and leavea unit empty.

My issue isn't them doing it. My issue is they're clearly choreographed to the point where it's not off the cuff. It's clearly something that's been practiced. I guess over the course of a few days during lunch breaks they could have.

I can see why people would ask that though. Being told hospitals are overloaded and in New York they don't want you to try to revive someone with a heart attack. Makes it seem like they're strapped 24/7. So I can see why some would look side ways at these videos.

Dont get me wrong. I dont resent them. I goofed off in a similar fashion at my workplace practicing twerking and stuff because they were slowing everything down gradually with the anticipation of the lockdown and there wasnt much to do.

I thought with how things were that hospitals would have been crazy busy more than usual that nurses might be missing out on breaks and stuff. Never really saw these types of vids being posted before the virus. Was there not much to do at some hospitals or something? Or maybe some wards simply got really quiet because people didnt want to go to hospital as much for their appointments because of fear of other people in hospitals.

Maybe the tiktok nurses werent the ER nurse heroes who had to actually deal with the COVID19 influx.

that's a pretty callous stereotype you're trying to sell. i don't know where the videos are from outside of a couple of them (one in missouri and another in virginia) but between those two states there are 20k cases.

grocery stores are rewiring themselves over this. if you think this isn't added stress to people who work in healthcare facilities, you are at best naive and at worst mildly awful.

15k of those 20k cases are in Virginia, the vast majority of which are in one or two major cities.

There are 45k cases in my state, and outside of the 3 major cities life continues as usual and in many instances has shut down entirely due to shelter-in-place orders. The cops are bored, the nurses are bored, everyone is bored, nothing is happening because everyone is at home.

NYC, LA, Philly, Portland...the hospitals in those cities are overwhelmed, anywhere else they're absolutely empty.

Im just curious thats all. I used to be in the kitchens at a hospital in my early 20s and just from the work environment I remembered there was definitely no time for this type of goofing off. Yeah they might chat and gossip for a bit here and there but i never really saw opportunities to choreograph dance videos and stuff. If they did get some down time they would be doing their notes or something

I dont know, maybe hospitals during this time are stopping visitors from coming in so maybe they are just using this time to not act professional.

Also this. guy nurses were usually bro tier. older nurses were usually horrible in terms of their personality and care they gave. apparently they usually end up bullying the younger girls who then end up like them eventuall. when id have lunch with some of the guy nurses they would go on about dumb unnecessary drama in their ward and complain why a lot of those chicks couldnt just go in, do what they need to do, then go home lol.

I knew you would be attacked for asking this simple question, lol.

I get that you would want to destress and have some fun at work, but it's not in line with what we're being told about hospitals being overwhelmed (apparently to the point where a 13+ year seasoned ER doctor killed herself).

I've never seen videos like this come out before. And if it was really that bad, would you even feel like choreographing an entire dance routine? I sure as hell wouldn't. I wouldn't have the will or the energy to even smile for the camera. I'd be leaning closer to the ER doctor.

I'll just assume that these were done in hospitals that weren't hit hard, because it doesn't make sense any other way. "They were on break." Yeah, you gotta love how all the doctors and nurses go on break at the same time leaving the patients to their own devices. >_> I also think in desperate times people are going to be pushing through and not necessarily getting all their mandated break time.

Thats what i mean, even retail and grocery store workers looked miserable and scared af just before lockdown even though business was slow and barely any people in the store (for retail workers). While everyone was told to stay home you can tell they looked like their companies didnt give af about their health by putting them out there. Even that camolot guy on youtube had videos of people hitting him up feeling some sort of way about being treated like cannon fodder out there while their bosses spend millions in ads to say 'thank you'.

you would think nurses would be even more scared/miserable and not messing around like its some joke. Its all very odd. Unless these videos were happening in the wards where they didnt have to deal with covid19 patients and the wards were quiet because people cancelling their regular appointments becasue they didnt want to be at a hospital at all because all of this stuff thats been happening

You don't think it's.. in poor taste? Like if every hospital is crammed full of covid patients that are in immediate need of care, and the situation is so grim to where thousands of people are dying each day, do you really think it's appropriate to make these kinds of videos?

What if one of your parents died in one of these hospitals? Then you see videos circulating of nurses dancing and having a good time while your mom/dad/grandma/grandpa/whatever was off dying in the background. Nurses are only human, but I don't think this is a good look.

I'm not defending TC, it's a fair question to ask. Use your brain and ask yourself if it makes sense for them to be doing this given what we are being told about the severity of the situation. Do you see military members choreographing dance routines on the front lines too?

Wife's a pharmacy tech. Many hospitals in the country actually have a staggeringly low workload right now, and aren't busy at all in places where the virus isn't rampant. They're only doing emergency surgeries and Covid preparation to make room in the event of it blowing up in the area.

Some hospitals in the country have actually had to furlough their employees.

So maybe most of these dance videos came from hospitals where they werent really in the front lines dealing with COVID 19 yet, but were more so the ones where workload slowed down because they were prepping for it and cancelling less urgent appointment and cases or outpatients were cancelling their own appointments and stuff? I know my dad had a whole lot of his regular check ups cancelled by the hospital he visits.

But then you also have to consider the teambuilding benefits they get from stuff like this, it seems silly but is effective

Not all hospitals are working under the same circumstances. Some will definately have a much bigger work load than others. Also nurses are not gonna to be able to perform the same tasks as say a doctor, sometimes there is going to be down time. Some nurses or workers find that doing tik tok crap helps them with dealing with stress. Im just hoping people asking this question is only out of ignorance and not the "virus is a hoax".

Same. Its an honest question. Seriously it must be just the hospitals/wards who arent actually dealing with an influx of coronavirus patients that are doing this. The ones where things have slowed down temporarily to prepare in anticipation of a COVID 19 rush. You literally didnt see italy doing these tiktok videos when their corona situation was getting really bad. I more so saw pics of nurses showing their faces with all marks and bruises after having PPE on for 14+ hours straight and telling people to take it seriously when jackasses here still were all like 'its just the flu bro, the regular flu kills more people'

So I finally got a response from my cousin in Seattle who works as a nurse in a busy ass public hospital, on why she made a tik tok dancing video and when does she (and her colleages) do it. She says because it's stressful as their workload double while the hospital had to cut back on employees as well. She answered my second question that she made the video when she (and co-workers) clocked out.

I don't know if I should even ask the question if she feels it's at all appropriate to be dancing like this, especially when she works at a hospital with an overwhelming cases of Covid19. If she and her other nurses made the video, I think that would answer itself.

Do you know how stressful working in healthcare is? I led 2 codes last night and both ended up dying after CPR. Who cares. If it is a way to de-stress, let them.
