Few years ago i bought a Burberry shirt for almost $400 congratulating myself in finally achieving my career goals.
https://i.imgur.com/D8eSyj0.jpg

Looking back at it, prolly not worth it as I've honestly only worn it like 4 times. Still fits me though.

not a good purchase, generally when you spend more money, you want more value...better materials, better construction etc....a shirt can only be improved so much (unlike shoes, watches, blazers etc)

my omega watch is 6k, also to celebrate a major career milestone

Probably some shoes that were mid $200s. Bought the Jordan 6s for $200 a couple weeks ago.

Shirts I have a cutoff around $100 and thats pretty much Bape shit and some recent Kobe Bryant splurges. Pants, anything over like $50 just seems crazy to me.

$400 Im probably buying a couple pairs of shoes and some tshirts and hats. If I have plenty of money Ill get the big time name brand stuff, but it was always weird to me just having like 1 nice thing. Youre rocking Gucci one day and then American Eagle the next, thats kinda weird.

lol, didnt know AE was listed above me whoops

Probably my suit.
I get things like tshirts for super cheap at Michael's lol. I think they're 4 bucks a shirt
Pretty much everything else besides jeans/shoes I'll get as cheap as possible on amazon
Coats I'll either look at thrift stores or buy on Etsy. I don't like spending money on clothes or having to worry about what to wear so it's always simple, plain clothes that look presentable in most occasions. Like 9/10 I'll wear a button down and chinos cus it can pass for casual or nice-ish with the only difference being sneakers or dress shoes and a watch.

If I had to assign roles to clothes philosophy would be my shirt, so in that case can it be improved?

Unless why this might but funny or sad

Probably a $400 suit. I dislike suits and find ties to be really uncomfortable, but it's good quality, so on the rare occasion I need it, I have it.

I have some blazers that were probably close to $1000 bucks at full price. I usually am pretty good at getting stuff on sale tho. I bought a pair of AF1s that were close to $500 bucks I believe.

I'm about to order a Robert Graham sport coat that was $700 bucks and I'm paying $260 shipped plus a $50 reward card to Bloomingdales. Great deal.

A few years ago I had on from like 1996 that had a flip phone pocket in it.

Was about in the $300 range but it lasted 25 years or so.

I have a few $300 ones I bought from stores and a few from Goodwill that I paid like $20 for that is just as good.

You'd be surprised at what people toss out.

Why pay four digits (or even three) for a suit I've worn maybe four times?
I'm all out of grandparents anyway, and interviewers only care that you bothered to wear any suit at all.

Because a poor fitting suit, one that looks off or isn't comfortable makes you project less confidence and attention to details. Interviewers and others do notice those things, if only subconciously. I don't leave any advantage on the table i can have over the average Joe

Three digits (3-400+tailoring) is enough to get that, if you go into 4 digits, you're getting advanced materials, custom measurements and full canvas...all luxuries which most people don't need and 0.001% of people notice.

If you can't drop 400 on a good suit, I get it...but I'd suggest doing it once it's remotely feasible. When you're in a suit is when you should need to look your absolute best, so might as well do it right.

Made in USA t shirts are currently about 40-50, so more supply wouldn't increase price i don't think

But yes, a lot of clothes cost more when made in USA (ie no cheap sweatshop labor)

"Tailored" is just a buzz word. Did they adjust an off the rack suit to your body? If so, you overpaid. Did they take custom measurements and make the suit? If so, maybe an appropriate pay (but probably not). Did they create multiple versions and recreate it from scratch each time to fit your body perfectly? If so, then probably a decent price
