The game launched at $60 unfinished.

It focused only on the Competitive community instead of having options for all types of gamers.

It's a symbol of everything wrong with Modern gaming. Release something unfinished and finish it with craploads of DLC.

It had no dedicated Arcade mode until way later.

It wasn't as good as IV. (IMO)

they launched a barebones game for cpt. hella boring to watch (at the time anyway). fishing for crush counters and doing the same combos everyone else does is lame. you won't get a situation where you have someone playing sf4 guile like dieminion, and then completely opposite like nuckledu. everyone is going to play guile the same.

It had a rough rocky start, but of course like most games they just keep piling on new content to it and now it's in an acceptable state. What really surprises me is how well it's doing in the FGC considering how limiting the gameplay is in comparison to SF4, where you could pull off more impressive combo's and show more uniqueness. I stopped watching SF5 tournaments because everyone does the same optimal combo's and moves.

- Prioritized Esports vs a good complete product.
- Ultra Street Fighter 4 finished off with 44 characters, tons of content in 2014-2015. SFV launched with 16 characters with barely any single player.
- Despite only having 16 characters at launch, DLC characters started coming in a month later. As of now 40% of the DLC characters were in the previous game
- Apparently the betas were good and fun, and the tone all the cool shit down.
- Game is kinda ugly
- Took 4 years to get to a level where it even came close to SF4.
- Online is still bad, despite some competition having a answer to better online, and Capcom releasing another game that has good online

Being a PS4 exclusive probably didn't help.

I know Sony funded the game but still. No PC or Switch fanbase (and I guess Xbone? lol) probably made a decent difference in interest.

SFV launched on PC at the same time as PS4 (they even have crossplay with one another). Plenty of people play it on PC.

exactly.

it was never conceived as a videogame, it was conceived as a skeleton of a game to which they could attach a shitload of DLC to maximize profit.

if Mario Bros 3 were developed that way you would have 3 stages, the boom boom castle and the bowser castle, thats it. All Mario suits would be DLC, you would have only 3 enemies (Goomba and green koopa) and you would have to download a season pass to be able to play as Luigi, see the ending or use the fire flower

It's just a shitty fighting game, plain and simple. I'd rather play sf4,3 or 2 over it. How it has fans to this day I'll never know. One of the biggest disappointments for me this generation. It took doom 2016 to wash the taste of that God awful shit out of my mouth.

Every fucking matchup looks the same every time. It's just boring.

SF4 had plenty of problems, but you could tell players apart solely by how they played. In 5, there's just the one optimal way to play, with variety solely coming from attempted reads. V trigger's too strong, even with how much it's been nerfed, deathless chip damage continues to be stupid, and a lot of the characters themselves are boring.

The game also doesn't get nearly enough hate for how bad V skill is. For most of the roster it feels like they just ripped one of their classic moves away and assigned it to V skill rather than actually create something new for them to match the new mechanic. It felt incredibly lazy.

Smash doesnt release version updates like Street Fighter. There are about 10 versions of SF2, 3 versions of Alpha, 3 versions SF3, and 4 versions of SF4.
