Business Analytics Teacher, John Peng Zhang at the University of Miami has resigned after students noticed a PORN BOOKMARK on his browser during a ZOOM video conference and footage has gone viral

He taught there since last August but left after students exposed his embarrassing blunder

A student filmed the video of his browser and posted it on Tik Tok where it went viral

One student let his microphone on and pointed out his bookmark tab to other students but Zhang didn't notice and continued teaching as normal

Hours later with more than 800,000 views, the URL for miami.edu was visible linking to him

Samantha Hill, a freshman and in one of his classes said "It was insane..it blew up. I had friends sharing it with me from other schools who saw it"

The original has been deleted but it was already out there on college-humour and the day after, Zhang addressed it saying "I don't know how it happened, i didn't see it, i'm pretty sure everybody else did..My apologies to the class"

He sent an email stating he was investigating it and encouraged people not to share it and then finally an email from the business analytics dept chair informed them class was cancelled before Zhang finally quit.

The student who posted it on tik tok regretted it after Zhang was removed and said "I felt bad about the attention it was getting..i didn't want him to lose his job. I thought he would be fine, i felt really bad. He was one of my only professors who seemed to care. I think firing him is too extreme. He didn't do anything illegal" said Jade Johnson.

A change.org petition was launched with more than 1000 signatures to reinstate him

Anyone who thinks they can share something like that online about their professor and that he'll be fine afterwards is too stupid for college.

Sucks for the professor, it was just a mistake and harmless, but 'Murica always freaks the fuck out over any topic that's sexual in nature, no matter how benign.

We really need to stop acting like stigmatizing people is ok. It isn't.

I dont have an sites bookmarked on my computer except a funny picture I accidentally bookmarked. Sometimes, I bookmark something else by accident and remove it when I do. That actually happens often (Ctrl+D instead of F). At work, the only ones I have bookmarked are the ones I use for work, and Google.

Whether the college outright fires him or convinces him in private that he should resign before they do so, doesn't meaningfully change what really happens.

Yeah, a lot of times when somebody "quits" in these kinds of situations, they were pressured into doing it. Granted, if he was just an adjunct, it's possible he has another job anyway.

As someone who works in a college. Works with students. Has to work from their personal laptop at home and prior to the shutdowns never did a video conference (and now I do one at least 3 times a week if not more)....

I have such a "I feel ya brah" for this guy.

I screen shared once by accident in the early days of the shut down for just a few seconds while were testing stuff out and when done I realized I had a tab open in the background of something not safe for work. Thank God no one noticed, if they did they were polite enough to ignore and not spread it around. But from then on I always make sure if I'm video conferencing all my screens and tabs are "Safe for work" just to be safe.

The students should not have embarrassed him like that, and the school should not have fired him. We're all learning how to properly negative mixing our work life with our home life.

Again as someone who works at a college.

It's pretty rare for a school to outright fire someone. If he is adjunct his contract is just for the semester, which is nearly over, it seems like it would just not be worth the time, effort and headache to officially fire him over something this minor, they could let him finish out the semester and not hire him back.

However it is possible they cut a deal with him, they won't fire him, but if he resigns they will pay him out for the rest of the semester.

Just a guess, having worked the admin side of colleges for many years.
