Poll of the Day > I was watching Ozark yesterday, thought of Breaking Bad (no real spoilers)

I havent seen any Ozark, but it looks good, so I saw a few recent episodes. I was with a friend who has seen all of Ozark, and he mentioned Skylar from BB.

He mentioned the wife in O(Laura Linney) was "everything Skylar could have been. In on it(the shady dealings) and not a bitch"

Which has me thinking...do people really think Skylar is a bitch because she freaked out when she learned her husband was making meth and dealing with criminals and gangs? Because that seems like a completely natural and reasonable reaction.

Yeah skylars reaction would have been completely normal... for like a day.

this is what I don't understand about people's reactions to Skylar. that's not something you "just get over" without minimal damage. that's a pretty fucked up thing to learn that your husband is not just a drug producer, but a potential murderer. it's not easy to just be like "okay see ya later" when you've been married (and supposedly in love) for quite some time and also have a kid (with significant disability). Oh and his brother in-law's job is literally to catch people like him. How are you supposed to handle a situation like that calmly and quickly? You can't.

I'm not excusing her smoking while pregnant, or fucking Ted, because those are some nasty things to do even with the knowledge she had, but to assume her reaction to that news would be any better than "angry and disappointed" is just immature. She could have done a number of different things (divorce, turn him in, run away) but even those things would make her look like a terrible person as well, because the show wants you to sympathize with Walt. She's kind of in an impossible situation that literally no normal person would be able to get out of without feeling like shit.

The biggest thing she did was joining in on it with Walt even when she knew it was damaging to their family. That's the point where I lost the sympathy I had for her.

Sure, if he was just making some meth on the side for money then yeah no problem (even that is grounds for "what the fuck is wrong with you") but he took it way further than that and made it personal for himself. He became greedy, and became a completely different person.

But you're right, she should have moved on at some point. She has only herself to blame when she started helping Walt and turned a blind eye to the shit he was doing. I'm mostly posting because a lot of people paint skylar as a complete bitch because of how she reacted to Walt. I think this is a really superficial view of her character. Most people would not take it well if they found out their spouse is drug dealing and acting totally different than normal. She absolutely becomes an unlikable character but she had redeeming qualities starting off. I think people forget that and only remember the smoking and cheating, which is definitely not the worst she did.

Skylar eventually helps Walt launder the money, but she tries to keep it reasonable. She absolutely freaks out when Walt buys two new cars because that's not something you do when you also just bought a carwash.
