I don't mind long startup on actions, but when you have to wait for ages after active frames end and you can't cancel into guard or evasion, it is incredibly feelsbad. I'm thinking specifically of ff7R - the combat in that feels really bad in terms of fluidity because animation recovery takes too long and is commonly interrupted. Guarding is easy, but half the time you can't even finish a combo without getting hit by another enemy or an unstaggerable attack.

I just want to complain i think, but I really want more games where you can seamlessly transition between actions - the first thing that springs to mind is dead cells.

you ever play dark souls 2? most of the tech is eating frames off of the start and end of stuff.

feints, quick attacks, recovery cancels. the one thing i wish was in 2 that isn't is toggle escaping, because to me that's like teching, something you can do during and immediately after damage.

Story of my life with OG monster hunter. Always gotta flex or some shit after swig.
I started off on the greatsword and tried some of the other slow weapons like Hammer and hunting horn, and couldn't get over how slow they were to transition into rolling after an attack. Monster Hunter is pretty guilty of this as well in a lot of cases.

The hammer has a shorter three or four hit combo that you should be using if you're getting anywhere close to the monster attacking again. The hammer is actually a surprisingly quick weapon if you're not relying on its big damage combos all the time.

If you set your targeting to free you can roll after all of your attacks in FF7R. Rolling sucks in that game though since there's no i-frames at all.
