Looks pretty badass, but why does everything have to have an Assassin's Creed style free running aspect to it now?

Apparently the whole game takes place on an island off the coast of Japan near China or Korea. And in real life the island has been disputed territory for centuries

Probably, yeah. Its pretty much impossible for an open world game to excite me in 2020.

Because theyre so insanely overdone because they became a fad where every company had to force open world to artificially inflate game length with boring, mundane tasks because dumbass gamers thought hours = quality.

They've overly large for the sake of being large.

Also Ubisoft focuses way too much on collectibles instead of making fun missions.

That being said, I've been sleeping on this game. it looks interesting, so I might check it out when it comes out but I'm not getting overly hyped.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsushima_Island

It's between Korea and Japan, but no one outside of some extreme Korean nationalists think it's Korean. It's not a disputed territory because the government of South Korea only tried to claim it for a short period after World War II and then dropped it in the 60s.

The island that is still under dispute is the Liancourt Rocks.

This, the fact there's no info especially with it constantly being delayed leads me to believe they know it's meh and are dumping it at the end of the PS4 life cycle cause there's gonna be no more big games left after TLoU2 that some people might buy it anyway.

I was super hyped for it when it was announced years ago, but clearly it's shaping up to be a dud. The only thing I've read about it is it doesn't use traditional waypoints, which I actually found concerning when I heard it. Seems like a cheap way to pad out an otherwise empty game while hiding behind "immersion".

The US screwed the whole thing up by giving it to Japan after WWII. They keep being ambiguous on it and waffled at various times. They really should have either just given it to Korea or been firm in their resolution. That ambiguity caused the present situation.

eh, theoretically, it could be like 8 story regions and you can take any of the 8 first with the rest scaling up in level with a dynamic story that changes depending on the path.

Something similar to that. But ya sadly with how news has progressed on this game Im guessing thats not the case. Shame too cause the announcement video was pretty sweet if a little too scripted.

well ya when you look at them as a whole. Theres really two main groups here, those that like open world and those that dont. Both have strong overlaps in similar interests.

so naturally a game is announced that both crowds like and then when we find out the gameplay style one crowds happy and the other isnt. Developers are never gonna get around it so they need to choose to specialize in one version or swap back and forth between games.

idk what crowd Im in though. I like both at different times.
