It's "gya" or "kya" and it's because just "ka" or "ga" has a flat "a" sound like "aaah" and to Japanese ears, especially the American pronunciation of "cash", "cashier", and so on sound like a different vowel sound. "kyash" sounds closer to them than "cahsh"

That katakana refers to suntanned/brown girls thats why. Usually they would use "garu".

I worded it poorly but yeah, at the time theres no way the NA market would have allowed stuff like this. Im not saying Im for or against the games, Im just saying the choice should be there.

For awhile the devs were allowed to just release adult patches but then Steam banned that. Then they got intelligent and just completely removed all restrictions.

Hey, @Nichtcrawler_X , two things.
1_. is "gya" not "giya." Giya would be (notice the difference in size: / )
2_. I assume it's this way because, originally, it was closer to a transliteration than a transcription (although now it's just wasei-eigo / english loanword, so the english pronunciation doesn't matter.) Transliteration is primarily concerned with representing the characters in an unambiguous manner as opposed to caring about the sound of the words.

In this specific case, my personal guess is, it's to differentiate between "gal" and "girl," because the transliteration of girl already exists in Japanese, it's (gru), if you were to transliterate gal as (garu) instead of (gyaru), it would be quite difficult to tell them apart, especially because their original meaning is pretty much the same, and more so because in Japanese the words gyaru and girl don't have the same meanings.

True. Although I must say, funnily enough, a lot of people who start learning the Japanese language take the "Japanese pronunciation is simple, the only difficult thing is kanji" meme to heart and end up butchering the pronunciation for years before even realising that stuff like pitch accent and vowel length are things that should be at least acknowledged when learning.
