I was only half-paying attention, but didn't that Yakuza trailer not mention the turn-based RPG stuff at all? I feel like that's a little misleading

It got a lot better as it went as far as I can tell. It is clear that they are doing a staggered announcement for the games so there will be more.

I think everything shown today was multiplatform. Some devs must either get paid by MS to put their games on there or they have enough money to burn to justify porting it over.

a lot of moves Microsoft have made over the last few years were made directly to address criticism they've received this gen. Scarlet Nexus and Yakuza 7 probably don't sell a ton on the Series X, but it helps build a portfolio they missed this gen when the best Japanese games that gained a ton of attention and sales didn't launch on Xbox.

The damage has already been done though. Nobody is going out to buy a Series X just because it gets a few Japanese games. Tbh even if it gets the entire library most people are still gonna pick the PS5.

I dunno if anyone should confidently say this at this point.

Sony seems to be making PS3-style mistakes while Microsoft appears willing to do nearly anything to gain people's trust.

Microsoft is easily my favorite of the big three atm just in terms of how they're conducting themselves and what their general business philosophy appears to be. Funny enough their practices have also put them in a spot where I'm never going to need to buy their console, but they seem to be cool with that! They're definitely playing the ecosystem game rather than focusing on platforms, which I wager Sony is going to wish they started doing earlier at some point.

if i was Sony right now , even if i had nothing ready to show, i would , in the upcoming event, gather whatever PS5 exclusives are being worked on and announce them all even if its just a black screen with a logo, just to take advantage of the timing and steal MS's thunder.

Yeah even when Sony hit rock bottom with the PS3 they still managed to topple the 360 in the end. Let's not forgot the 360 was an absolute monster in those early years. It was getting everything and could do no wrong.

I don't even think it was the exclusives that did it, I think the PS3 being technically more powerful had a lot to do with it.

In the early part of the generation most single-platform reviews were on 360, but by the end (ignoring like, Skyrim and Mass Effect which had inferior versions) devs figured out how to maximize gains, and reviews seemed to transition to PS3 to reflect that.

Microsoft have been competitive in much more than just the US and the UK. That ones almost as bad as the Europe=Sony Land oversimplification.

Microsoft will never win Japan. But that is also a market that matters less than ever, and theyre hitting the growth markets hard. It is certainly possible for them to outsell the PS5.

Also the PS3 never officially outsold the 360. Microsoft stopped reporting hardware numbers three years before the 360 stopped production, so the current PS3 numbers are actually three years ahead of the most recent 360 numbers. In all likelihood the 360 stayed on top, but well never know for sure.

The transition was to PC IIRC. PS3 versions stayed worse throughout with the odd exception, right up to Shadow of Mordor.

you can't really say MS has been competitive at all this gen. they've been pretty much steamrolled. and its also clear they started focusing on the upcoming gen a few years back upon realising this one was a lost cause.

This gen? Absolutely not, no. But the 360 was a different story.

Europe is a vast and diverse continent that supports Sony products, Nintendo products, and PC to varying degrees. But if you just want to break it down to Sony vs. Microsoft, the PS3 outsold the 360 like 5:1 in Europe.

And the PS3 overtook the 360 worldwide before new consoles launched.

That was based on forecasts. Sony stopped giving quarterly updates before then. We will never actually know.

We also wont know this time either so its kind of meaningless.
