The bartender tells them that they are only selling light beer at this time, and asks them what they'll be drinking
Danny Elfman says: "I want something whimsical, give me a Light Blue Moon"
Hans Zimmer says: "I want something bold and brassy, give me a Light Heineken"
The bartender says "And for you, Mr Williams?"
John Williams says: "I'll go with my favorite, a leitmotif, and keep 'em coming"

Howard Shore is the bartender and he asks them if any of them can ever come up with something as beautiful as LotR. So they get up in shame and leave.

LotR is very good but John Williams has several themes that surpass it.

There also probably is some sort of punchline to be made involving "On the Rocks" and Hans Zimmer being the composer for "The Rock" but I can't put it together fully.

Please don't say, Jurassic Park.

Anyway, Nino Rota walks into a restaurant and asks the Bartender who is your favorite, movie-theme composer, the Bartender says, idk?
Rota walks into the bathroom comes out armed, and takes out the Bartender. RIP Bartender.

When we get to that level of quality themes it's very subjective and hard to say, but IMO Jurassic Park main theme is competitive, for tragic beauty the main theme for Schindler's List is hard to beat, honestly Home Alone has some very beautiful Christmas melodies. There are so many.

LotR is very very good, but Williams is such a god that I just don't cosign a story where he is shut down by anybody.

Iconic, most definitely. His stuff is adventurous and mesmerizing. But as beautifully constructed as LotR? Gonna have to agree to disagree. LotR is majestic in comparison.

Have we had this conversation before? I don't mean that in a bad way.
I just think Jurassic Park is kinda Meh, at least by his standards...And I wondered why, then I realized he did Schindler's list the same year.

I'm not a music theorist or anything, so I can't say what themes are better constructed. I'm comfortable saying though that nobody beats Williams in number of iconic themes. Maybe LotR is better on several technical levels, I couldn't say.

Ya, as far as breadth of work, John Williams has got to be the best.
But in terms of Main Themes, Jurassic park's is below his talent.
But like I said...He was also working on Shidlers List, in the same year, which is breathtaking in and of itself.

Ya dude, John Williams is a legit, modern great composer!!

Little off-topic: but....

Snoopy walks into a bar and asks the bartender for a root beer.
The BarTender then replies. Sure one coming right up!

Snoopy proceeds to the Jukebox and asks Woodstock what he should put on...
Woodstock then replies, Vince Guaraldi.

I basically agree, but I still think JP is great.

John Hammond is my favorite character by far in that movie and early parts of the theme do a great job of evoking his tragic almost delusional "spared no expense" optimism.

The little touches of sadness or unease to that theme I think are what makes it really work.

I think how people rank Elfman vs Zimmer is going to be a bit to do with how they'd rank Burton vs Nolan.

I haven't really seen the movie. And most of the people who like that theme so much seem to connect it to the visuals. Which happens very commonly.

One of my favorite melancholy movie themes is Moon River.

Very simple and straight forward with almost none sensical lyrics.
"My Huckbear Friend...Moon River and me"

From Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Which is dumb. Hans Zimmer is so utterly forgettable.
