How does that help? Comment sections on stuff like soundtracks were all just quoting the shows, and people can't really discuss certain parts in shows anymore.

It seems like they're doing that to try and shield viewers from problems that either don't exist, or aren't doing anything for the ones that are (like the algorithm issues).

There was an outcry that allegedly child predators were putting timestamps for the "sexiest parts of the video" or some nonsense like that.

So there are are two sisters who I watch who do covers of metal and rock songs
Sometimes they do live streams
They're mom actually has to be there as a mod because one of the girls is like 14 and has clearly grown aged men asking things like how big her boobs are

That's why.

Or the rape and death threats on Friday when Rebecca Black put her video up.

Yes Audrey123

i actually ended up asking her mom in chat if it was common for guys asking things like that and her response was "there's a reason I won't let the girls do a stream without me in chat"

That. There was a big controversy of people in comments, popular in children gymnastics videos, leaving timestamps of when the kids are in compromising positions.

You may think so but obviously there is a reason why. Also, why does it bother you?

Nothing of value was lost anyway. YouTube comment sections are worthless cesspools.

I expect that eventually all comment sections will be removed. They are really just a source of liability and legal issues for platforms and content providers.

youtube using an algorithm to decide what is or isn't "content for kids" seems far more counterproductive and arbitrary

i've seen everything from anime clips with explicit language to live concert performances auto-categorized as such
