Then how do we fix the internet?

I disagree with your premise that the internet is broken or that society is broken because of it. I think the pros of having a tool like the internet far outweigh the cons.

The points you bring up in this topic are legitimate problems. I don't think there's an easy solution for them because the internet is a tool for facilitating communication and the spread of information. It's just as easy to spread information as it is misinformation or bad information.

The only real solution to that is moderation of content and teaching people how to double-check information and to cite sources. The problem with moderation is that it can lead to censorship and the problem with the latter is that a lot of people aren't very smart or are intellectually lazy.

It's not really a matter of fault, the solution just has to solve the problem. Either make the tool easier to use, or have better education on how to use it.
Yeah, maybe fault was not really quite the right word to use there. But like, think about advertisements. When you see an advertisement, do you assume everything in it is completely true and honest and etc? Probably not. In fact I distrust advertisements so much I use adblock because I feel like they're straight up completely not worth looking at. Most people probably think the same. This is because advertsiments have been around a while and everyone's used to them / knows to view them with the appropriate level of skepticism. I'm kinda reminded of these "advertisements" that played on children's TV when I was young that were intended to get kids to think critically about what they see on TV. If you want to watch one here's my personal favourite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TijcoS8qHIE

the internet is relatively new (at least, in its current form) and there just isn't that sort of proper mindset around it yet. I think as people get more acclimatized to how it all works there won't really be so much of a problem anymore

Broken implies it doesn't work. The internet still works.

It does work as intended though. Most of its problem are the same problems that exist when people communicate, it's just magnified by the scale that the internet can reach. I don't think there's an easy solution to that.

When internet was seen as just for nerds it was fine.

when the masses and their stupidity made their way to the net with social media, it got bad.

Whenever something goes mainstream it becomes trash. Just look at gaming.
