I'd sooner have a "murder hornet" show up in my apartment than ever have to deal with cockroaches. They're ugly as sin and will pop up when you least expect it. Change my mind.

Cockroaches are gross and resilient as fuck, but they won't kill you.

Mosquitoes can carry diseases that will kill you. They also have no other purpose than to bite you, suck out your blood, and cause you to have an allergic reaction.

I think roaches can carry diseases that can kill you. And they move into people's homes and multiply in ridiculous numbers.

But I think mosquitos kill more people than any other animal does. Which might make them "the worst" insects on the planet.

We might need both of them, though.

It's because of cockroaches that we have the cockroach factor. A person's ability to survive a dangerous accident is inversely proportional to how much they contribute to society. Good for a lot of people that come to gamefaqs.

Mosquitos, bed bugs, mites, anything that preys on human / being parasites mostly.

Cockroaches are disgusting but they are mostly harmless.

They definitely exist. However if Australia had bed bugs theyd probably end up being poisonous somehow like everything else up there.

Arent cockroaches pretty important to the ecosystem in that they eat garbage and other refuse?

i think it was Japan that has farms of cockroaches at garbage facilities that would eat garbage and in return produce compost.

i could be wrong.

and I dont think cockroaches carry disease.

I completely forgot about these. Yeah, these are definitely worse than cockroaches. If I remember correctly, bot flies can burrow under your skin and lay eggs. Sickening.

Cockroaches probably aren't even top 5.

Mosquitos
Bed bugs
Ticks
Wasps/hornets

Then I'll put those furry worms that cause allergic reactions if they touch you, and have been everywhere the past several years.

And these are only insects I've encountered in the Northeast...

Cockroaches probably suck but as long as you keep your home reasonably clean, you shouldn't have any problem with them.

I remember watching that Animal Planet (?) show called Infested some years back. They talked about a German cockroach (the tiny ones) infestation that was so bad that if they left an apple or something out the roaches would eat it by morning. It was so bad that they opened up the refrigerator and found it crawling with roaches. Turns out one of their neighbors was a fucking slob and it was against his religion to kill anything, including pests so he refused the exterminators whenever they would come through the building

That's one reason why I cover up my toothbrush with a cap and take it with me to my bedroom, because roaches like to drink the moisture off of toothbrushes. That episode was nightmare fuel and made me change up how I did things. I use barrier protection often, I might get a large tree roach every now and then because of the giant oak trees in my yard but they're usually dead by the time I find them.

those roaches dont infest like normal cockroaches do. They may wander into your home by coincidence.

i found two in my home over the years and they tend to be attracted to light and will follow it in darkness. But they actually prefer to be outdoors.

To be fair, I've never heard of mango worms until this topic. I guess all it would take is one google search or a YouTube video to see what they are, but something tells me I'll regret it lol.

Well, you did say "change your mind" about cockroaches being the worst. =P

Yeah, the videos are disgusting. Thousands of mango worms can infect an animal at once. Then you gotta get their maggoty little bodies squeezed out of your pores. It happens a lot to dogs because they roll around in the dirt where the larvae are.

As much as I want to get rid of cockroaches based on appearance and creep factor alone, Mosquitoes are probably objectively worse when it comes to potential harm and relative purpose within the ecosystem.
