You regain control in the big center room and you moved up the stairs to talk to the member of royalty like the cutscenes to continue the story like it indicated you should? LMAO you just missed out on a sidequest for some item/ title that's maybe actually useful and only available through it. You should have actually talked with the guard and then backtracked all the way to the first city and talked with a random woman in her house who then mentions her son is a guard somewhere, and then you have to walk back to the castle, talk to him, and repeat the last two steps one last time to deliver a letter between the two of them. The door opening is dependent on your level in the Chaos Servant covenant, and IIRC, it doesn't tell you the door actually opens when you hit the necessary covenant level... that isn't even taking into consideration that Dark Souls 1 heavily discouraged jumping from covenant to covenant, so there's a lot of chance involved with whether or not you'd even see the maggots before "that" happens. Furthermore, the Chaos Servant covenant is completely unrelated to Solaire, :/ Dark Souls is my favorite gaming series, but things like that are definitely worthy of having some criticism levied against it.
