I've played Trilogy on the N64, then 9, 10 and now 11. The Aftermath trailer got me excited so I finally caved and bought this game.

Firstly, awww yeah. Evil Raiden.

Second, Sonya's voice actor is... not very good. I'm sure she's a great lady, but it's not the best. Graphics/production quality look great. I'm now up to chapter 2 - Kotal Khan vs Shao Khan. Oh baby. They know what the people want.

Since 9 the story mode is top notch

I REALLY liked the story of 9. 10 was okay. Didn't like the kids much - felt like an after school cartoon.

I'm also not really a huge fan of the gore or fatalities. I just like the campy story with ninjas and ****.

I think the writing so far is good. But I do feel like it's also kind of a cop-out in a way? It reminds me of DC, in that it can barely move two feet before it becomes a remake or reboot or whatever. Like 9 was kind of a soft reboot and it was great, the story moves on to 10... not as good but fine. You've got revenants and evil Raiden, but then they say, actually **** all that, evil Raiden disappears five minutes in and it's back to regular Raiden and it just feels like they're gearing up to just reset things to MK9 type era. It's fine but I also kind of wish they'd not done the whole time travel thing. Also D'vorah is lame so I'm glad she's only been in the game for like 30 seconds so far.

The big black dude whose name I can't remember right now, Geras(?) is very cool. I do like him. Also Liu Kang is way easier to play as than Kung Lao.

Finally, Raiden and consulting with the Elder Gods, name a more iconic duo.

I feel the same way TC. MK9-11 are supposed(?) to be a trilogy, but 10 and 11 almost ignore what happened in the last game and start their own plot. I was so hyped for X's story after 9's cliffhanger, and then it's dealt with like an hour into the new game :/

Jade is fun to play as - I feel like she was a bit dumb to knock out Kotal though. Bruh.

I really liked MK11's story, and from a gameplay standpoint I LOVED it. It's my fav MK game ever.

That said, my only complaint on the story was that they don't follow through with Evil Raiden. They definitely pivot away from it..

I liked what they did with the story. I just wish they gave the Evil Raiden thing a bit more

How come Kano gets hurt when the other Kano does but Jax can fight himself?

theres some story DLC being released soon. Picks up from the end of the game.

yeah Im keen! I bought a bundle edition so I have the first kombat pack and the DLC story when it comes out.

people who say the stories to these games are good..... i dont get it.

i mean sure theyre like the only fighters that have story modes with such high presentation, but like, theyre bad. and super cringe. not really a fan.

i feel like mortal kombat takes itself way too seriously and thinks its way cooler than it actually is. just look at the trailers with fuckin trap music in top of them lol. i wish they leaned in on the over the top silliness of it all. we want to hear the MORTAL KOMBAT!!! techno shit while we break bones and spill massive amounts of blood, not rap or dubstep music lol. gain some more humility and admit what you are, mortal kombat. then you will appeal to more than frat bros and little boys.

I respectfully disagree. The way to do this kind of cheese, is to heavily lean into the cheese. Dont make excuses for it or you end up like Batman v Superman. Or go too far the other way and then youre Marvel.

Also, loved the double Johnny stuff. That double sunglasses gag cracked me up.

Kitana beating Shao Khan? Hes been whupped twice in this game now - I like that hes even here and playable but hes also leaning towards jobber territory.

I like the setting of the Sonya stuff - still not a fan of the voice actor. Also as an Aussie Kanos extremely broad accent is hilarious. I actually hate Kano but Boon must absolutely love him because hes in every game.

I would not enjoy that at all. I like a good martial arts/action story every so often. I want my Kung Fu Hustles to be Kung Fu Hustles and Mortal Kombats to be Mortal Kombats.

my problem is with the tone

why i brought up the trailers because i feel like they encapsulate what i find wrong with the games: tone. vibe.

think the vibe of the original movie. think 90s in general. and then add the hyper violence. i would eat that shit up. but as it is now, it just feels... lame.

but eh i guess im in the minority oh well

Oh dayum.

I just got to the part where you play as Raiden and Chronica (?) takes Liu Kang. Im not really up on the timelines and stories and whatever - did they just provide a reason for all the reboots and retcons and whatever else? If so I do have to admit thats pretty clever. And her taunting Raiden was done super well. Pretty chilling.

My only problem was with one minor inconsistency

When they kidnapped Sonya, Johnny had just beat the shit out of Kano1 yet Kano2 felt no effects from which they kinda made a point in showing that that was a thing

it seems wildly inconsistent the whole game - unless its explained by Chronicas powers, like she can stop the effect or something.

and holy **** I kinda loved it? Last fight was hard as balls though. What was even the point of that first phase?

Finally: can't wait for Fujin. I just wanna be a dank airbender.

MK11 compared to MKX is lot more casual friendly. MKX had a lot more freedom, which made it a very hard game for casuals to play. MK11 is a lot more restrictive, meaning button commands and certain strings are a lot easier to pull off in comparison. It's honestly the only negative I have with MK11... also when the game released there was some stupid decisions like grinding like crazy just to unlock anything.
