Was one of the responses on today's poll of the day. I've been alive for as long as Sega was making consoles and never heard of this thing.

Going by Google, the first Sega console. Meaning it clearly belongs on the poll.

It sold 2 million units worldwide, apparently.

It was tough choosing between Sega systems. The Saturn and dreamcast are my most played systems still today.

So do the Sega CD and 32x, then

It released in Japan the same day as the Famicom. That probably didn't help it.

A quick search tells me those are add-ons, not proper consoles.

I love the Dreamcast, and of course the Genesis. Those are my 2 faves. Both fantastic. I never understood why the Saturn has this cult following. To me, it paled in. comparison to the N64 and PS1. Whereas DC was probably the best console of its generation

You live in America most likely. Give Saturn a shot and you'll see it's greatly undervalued.
America loved the n64 and Japan loved the Saturn, and everyone loved the playstation. The Saturn has a ton of great hits and exclusives. The fighting games on it alone are top notch with arguably the best console controller for fighters.
The amount of games on it surpasses the n64 I wanna say, if that speaks how under appreciated the console is.

I had a SG-1000, or at least dad did early on. My first system until we got a Mega Drive. The release locations for it were rather limited compared to later Sega systems.

Meanwhile, I still never found the Saturn or Dreamcast. -_-

I do live in America, and I have experienced the Saturn. A friend of mine had it.

Interesting. I fell for it quickly and people who have played it with me love it.
Decathlete is such a fun game to show people.

It's great dreamcast is loved despite having like half the commercial life of the Saturn. The dreamcast just had a killer launch and life.

You've probably never heard of it because it was never released outside of Japan and, I believe, a couple other nearby regions.

Just like how you've probably never heard of Nintendo's first line of consoles, the Color TV-Game.

Whether or not they're classified as consoles (and I believe the 32X was marketed as a console), the poll asks about "game systems".

They finally recognize the SG-1000 in one of these and then leave out the SCD & 32X.

The Saturn has some awesome shoot em ups. The fighting games like xmen vs Street fighter are WAY better on Saturn than ps1. Some pretty good rpgs and strategy rpgs on saturn.

I can't decide on an answer in today's poll

I loved all my Sega consoles, I still have my MS2 and MD, both still work (unlike my Dreamcast) and I think at one point I had 3 Saturns.. Xmen v SF was the first arcade perfect game I played at home

The history of Sega consoles is full of consoles that got different receptions in different parts of the world. There are multiple versions of the Master System, for example, because it was extremely popular in Latin America and kept selling there long after it was done in other regions.

As for myself, I still love (and play) my Saturn and Dreamcast, as well as my Genesis (and Sega CD / 32X, though I have my doubts as to how long that drive is going to last).

New Zealand, parts of Europe, maybe Australia and UK (Grandstand released it in NZ, they were a UK based company so quite possible, while Australia I only heard rumours that it was).

It was because the Saturn was absurdly expensive compared to other consoles at the time.

Nah, not absurdly expensive. I bought mine for $150 in 1997 and my PS1 for $130 in 1999 -- I bought the bundle that came with Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop, and Daytona USA, so it was a better value out of the box than the PS1, which came with no games. Unless you never saved any game data, the cost of a memory card (or 3) for the PS1 pretty much immediately ate into that $100 lauch price difference. If you are comparing launch prices, then you'd also have to say the PS1 was absurdly expensive compared to the N64, yet it seemed to fare well in the market against the N64.

Compared to the 3DO, that ain't nothin'.

Then again, I got my Saturn secondhand with ten games for $35 U.S. on E-Bay in 2002.

It was a Sega game console that came out in the early 1980s before the Genesis or Master System if I am correct.

I think it was only released in Japan, Australia and New Zealand I believe.
