A lot of people here commenting seem to have little to no experience picking up food at a restaurant let alone during the pandemic.
I've been doing grubhub driving for a couple months now so I've had a lot of experience picking up food from restaurants and seeing various covid 19 related policies and staffing issues. Yeah a lot of restaurants aren't doing so great. The issue could be coming from corporate forcing super low staffing or with individual restaurant owners. Some restaurants, just aren't very good all on their own. If someone is waiting at your restaurant for 3 hours for take out food then your restaurant severely messed up and you should be eager to refund peoples money. 3 hours is beyond horrible even in a pandemic. There could be a variety of reasons here such as low staffing or failing to notify customers as to how long their order will actually take. There are no reasons why it should ever take 3 hours really and even if it did customers should be notified of that before placing the order or have it explained to them when they arrive. If a customer agrees to the wait after being well informed then no one should be complaining. This isn't to defend the Karen (or the racist implication of that name being used as a slur) but a lot of people are overlooking the fact that the restaurant severely messed up. Anytime a fight breaks out between customers and employees the restaurant is never blameless. That worker definitely held onto the Karens hair for way too long and other employees were clearly trying to get her to calm down. That definitely isn't a great way to handle a situation frustrating as that customer was. Also, a lot of customers pay in advance or pay upon arrival for takeout orders. She could have easily paid hours before this incident. Granted, the way the Karen handled herself was horrible. She should have just asked for her refund and/or never waited 3 hours. There were many things she could have done to be way more civil. I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to her facing legal action from the restaurant for that matter. The restaurant being completely incompetent and full of horrible customer service still doesn't come close to justifying her trash behavior and demeanor. TLDR: Yeah the Karen was horrible and she deserves consequences, but don't let the crappy restaurant off the hook for making customers wait 3 hours. --- just tell them all your base doesn't belong to us because we were getting stoned...they'll understand-Ken156 ... I understand getting mad when your expectations arent met, but you dont yell at employees or cause a scene, and you especially dont hit someone. Last horrendous dining experience I had, I just politely asked the host to speak with the manager to tell him that wed gone 30 minutes at a table without getting greeted, because thats the kind of information a manager would want. They offer to make amends, you politely decline, they insist, thats the end of it.
I had to diffuse more than a few situations when I was still bartending before the pandemic, and most people were agreeable if you showed them and their frustration respect. Most of them just want to be heard. The issue is that, sometimes, hospitality workers get caught up in a me vs them mentality, which is unproductive. If you can empathize that a customer had a realistic expectation that the business failed to meet, you can usually get ahead of it before it escalates. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

This was after a 3 hour wait though so she is probably a bit of a psycho and the restaurant is super incompetent and/or understaffed well beyond a reasonable degree. I'm going to guess based on the vibe in the video that the onlookers weren't exactly pleased with the restaurant. The only fault I can see on the restaurant is that employee shouldn't have grabbed her hair like that. With that said, I can't really seeing myself agreeing with the customer asking for her money back because the service is to slow. Like if you were to actually use your brain, it was Mother's day which means there's going to be a high volume of people wanting to order stuff and with the quarantine that makes the staff slashed in half it's to be expected that you'll have to wait long.
