Everywhere else in the country people are opening things up but they are saying universities will be online only in the fall semester. I thought they weren't hit as hard.

Because it's better to be safe than sorry? As we saw with South Korea, it takes one infected to lead to an outbreak. They will open things up, but not everything needs to open up at this very moment and precautions need to be taken. Hell there is a second wave coming, and it could be as soon as the fall, so why not tell people this shit now and not when it happens?

Cali and NYC are densely populated cities and big markets. They are ports of the country. These states are never safe enough especially with a virus like this.

I believe if people get infected in an outbreak, their contact tracks will have California and New York.

I personally think extending it 3 months is excessive. I feel like if it requires that we arent dealing with the issue in a practical manner. That being said some
states are a little too lax about it. Here in PA is moderately strict. (You legally are required to wear a mask to enter a building as an example.)

I love how governments who have sent people to die in pointless wars all of a sudden care about people.

You know life is not without risk. So I assume all of you will no longer drive cars after this because you might get into an accident. Like you know we never developed a vaccine for a corona virus? The family of colds. Probably because it mutates too quick unlike the flu which is seasonal. So then what? What happens if we can't develop a vaccine? What's the next step? Stay inside forever? Because if you can't see why some people would get conspiracy theories over something like that then you're daft.

There's a lot more consequences to staying at home for over a year than just the economy. The whole life ecosystem. People who would normally meet people at work or school no longer will. How many future relationships that'll produce children won't happen? Or people who meet at clubs or bars. None of that will happen for a while in some places.

At some point, people like this will need to accept that our culture is changing, and you can either adapt or be left behind. Service industries are dying, working and interacting with others is being done remotely. These are all changes that were in progress; corona just sped up the timeline.
