Go take a good look at the politics board and notice how often the posters there are at each others throats over Biden and Sanders. As much of a hellhole as that board is, it's a pretty accurate representation of the 'hardcore' voting base of the left. And to put it simply, there's a huge divide and fracture there. Now take a look at just about any right wing board. They're pretty much unified for Trump. That alone would be a decent disadvantage but then throw in moderates, outliers and those who just don't really care about politics and it gets worse. Remember, Dubya wasn't liked very much either, but he was still re-elected. Apathy due to a poor candidate is a real thing and it's going to kill the Dems again. But hey, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe things have changed since then and I'll eat crow in November.
