5, 6, 8, 11 are must plays.

7 is quite overrated. It isn't bad but good lord is it too long and slow for its own good. The fact it takes about 15 hours at least to start the vocations soured me a lot.

5 is the best. Fantastic story and monster recruitment makes battles even more fun. 11 is excellent too, but I'm a fan of the old style games so 5 wins out.

The reason it doesn't rank in the 4-5 I've played is the amount of backtracking. In order to finish the story your going back to areas multiple times, sometimes for really dumb reasons.

Don't play DQ7 then. If you miss a shard, the backtracking will slaughter you.

Ive played 7, 8, 9, and 11, and theyre basically all the same game, and i dont mean that in a bad way.

11 Is probably best overall for the modern QOL stuff

Of the ones I've put a great deal of time into (ie the first 9)

4 > 3 > 8 > 9 > 5 > 7 > 6 > 1 > 2

10 is a MMO that wasn't really released in the US, and I really need to go through 11 sometime.

Halfway through it, as I said prior. Stuck at the area where you get jobs/classes.

Pretty much all the DQ games are crappy spin-offs in some way shape or form. They have the team, yet the games rarely get new music, most of the character models are recycled(ignoring important characters), not to mention they are dealing with arguably the most corrupt music composer within all video games. The guy literally held the better soundtrack hostage while he sold more concert tickets, only to release it for the Switch version. It took fans to recompose the soundtrack on pc to make it somewhat playable.

Started playing 4. Feels like some good old classic jrpg. Good so far!

4 is a really good game. Just good clean JRPG fun. It's a very charming game, or at least the DS one was at least.

It does earn extra points from me for having a bunch of fairly obscure outside of Ireland Irish slang incorporated into the first section of the game though.

I think another annoying thing about 7 3DS was that as you progress through the game it basically becomes really self defeating to not use the various all enemy attacks you get from various jobs as you progress through them. Chrono Trigger had a similar thing. You want to play in a more nuanced way but it's so much less effective. Also the stupid enemies are endless cos you can't avoid them
