I spent that whole time thinking the spamming player they were laughing at was the guy losing his cool, and when I realized I was wrong at the end it made the whole narrative verrrry different, lol.

no yeah, the Ryu's player's absolute unawareness of why the Rufus player is so tilted and why everyone else is laughing so hard is what elevates this video to top tier status

his celebrations at each round he wins make me crack up every time

My favorite line is "oh, wakeup EX fireball" because the guy says it so matter of factly.

Also this video is very painful every time I see it because I've lost to those players before too in other games like MKX.

Whatever dude, the guy won, had fun, and was a good sport. He's a much better player than the titled loser.

I audibly cracked up at the triple Ryu HP wiff followed by the triple Rufus CP connect though.

Can someone explain whats going on? I can't follow this

why is one of those white boys named Ghandi?

Is the player on top Rufus? if so, why isn't the ryu player, on the left, on top? Thats why I'm so confused

are they just laughing because he lost against a super hyperactive ryu?

FPS and Ghandi are their gaming handles. Like "Gootecks" or "UltraDavid."

Top player is Rufus, bottom player is Ryu.

They're laughing because the Rufus player clearly has spent time learning combos and trying to play the game competitively, whereas the Ryu player is your typical online masher who knows the special attack inputs but no actual combos or meta. All Rufus has to do is hold downback and anti-air, or at least walk up block and punish DPs, and he wins. Instead, the Rufus player keeps attempting mixups and links as if he's playing someone who's also thinking about mindgames. He should know better but he doesn't adapt and he gets hardcore tilted.

And it's extra hilarious because everyone has been there.

it's hard for me to see what rufus is trying to go for there, or what he expects the ryu player to do

the last time i played a traditional 2D fighter was mark of the wolves, and i basically did what the ryu player does - spam an aerial kick/low-kick sweep until the opponent adjusts, use the DP anti-air if someone does a big jump at me

it seems pretty effective if noobish, so i don't get why rufus's player is so upset about it

Mid level player expects to play people (especially at a tournament) to play the "right way" and he likely trained against people andmade strategies to fight people who play the 'right way' so when you get to used to that and play a super noob who beats you, naturally you'll get salty you lost in a way that wasn't on your terms.

This was a very funny match, and also a relatable one, because sometimes when I lose a Street Fighter match against a player like this, I get annoyed and find myself thinking that I "should" have been able to win. Knowing that your opponent is using a basic and repetitive technique that you could easily counter doesn't matter if you keep getting hit by it anyway. That said, it is very satisfying to face a player like this and win because you're able to predict every move they will make and punish them for it.

On the subject of Street Fighter 4 matches, my favourite is the Snake Eyes gauntlet, where Snake Eyes was the last player on his team and the other team hadn't lost anyone yet, then he comes back and beats them all. The whole fight is in the video, and Snake Eyes comes in around the 49 minute mark.

I've lost to people who I "should" be able to beat but in my case I think it's been due to not being quite good enough to fully take advantage, rather than having overtrained on good people. MKX is the example I think of, with that guy who used that character. You know the one. I don't think he was that bad but he really spammed.

It's a sad one.

I remember watching the replay and I'm surprised his controller didn't fly away with how much he was spinning his control stick and mashing ult during that last block string. I deserved to lose after that panicky round 2 though. It's a bummer this is my only match online because I was much better than this would lead you to believe!

Yeah, Jyobin is actually an extremely good player. The fact that at first glance he looks like your typical online scrub DP mashing Ryu just adds to his mystique, but he's carefully calculating every single one of those mashed uppercuts.

what's the "right way" to play, though?

It's kind of complicated to explain but basically the perceived notion is that generally there's a certain 'flow' that high level Street Fighter matches go.

For example:
* Neutral should be the "walk back and forth, sometimes throw fireballs to bait jump, throw out normals to bait reaction, anti-air any jumps"
* Offense should lead into safe pressure on block, optimal damage on combos on hit, and mixups should generally be easy to lab low/overhead/throw/crossup stuff.
* Defense should generally be lowblocking and reacting to jumps or throws. Maybe DP or jab after you get knocked down to occasionally surprise opponent.

Very overly generalized of course but that's like the super gist of it. This Ryu guy just does really 'random' things that would throw off people who expects the flow of the match to be like the above.

Great players can adapt and 'turn off their brain' to force the randomness out of these players and punish them for it. Mid level players who aren't used to this will just get frustrated trying to condition the new player to make them do what they want to do but then the mid players ends up getting hit.
