I'd either be playing randos or looking for folks on GameFAQs, which would be tantamount to randos, essentially. Two, honestly they don't hold my attention for long. Plus lagging is still not the greatest in fighting game servers and high level players are something else completely. Casuals won't stick around if they're constantly getting bodied by people way above their skill, they might not want to put in the time labbing stuff out, and the small playerbase for some of them make it feel like you're only getting matched with much higher ranked players(I see this one a lot for SCVI). The lag on some of them are godawful which make some losses feel undeserved, and then there are the godawful people playing on wifi or with shitty internet. If I learned them as a kid it would probably be fine, but by the time I've realized I need to block low, jump a fire ball, or tech a throw it'll already be too late. But as a kid I didn't understand fighting games enough to want to bother, and now that initial investment to realign those synapses just feels like too much. Guilty Gear is nice, but the storymode is always too short and I usually suck at combos. I wouldn't pay over $20 for a fighting game again. Marvel vs Capcom or SNK is always fun. SFIV was alright...I didn't bother with V. SC III was decent too back in the day. I'm more into the Marvel vs Capcom series than any other fighter.
