It isn't realistic for the government to cut you checks and while you chill out at home for over year, while still being able to buy food at the grocery stores, get haircuts, fill up your car with gas, etc.

Realistically how much would it cost just to issue everyone a hazmat suit and require it be worn in public? Anyone violating that can be arrested immediately and stuck in isolation until agreeing to comply, everything can open again, no one can infect each other. Restaurants can cease to exist, take-out only forever, people can get food at grocery stores and farmers markets, people can get clippers and shave their own heads.

This could work.

Yeah, that's working brilliantly so far. I made a post a week ago that I went to a Walmart and a Kroger on a Saturday in Tennessee, and maybe 10% of the shoppers were wearing masks. Maybe 20% social distancing. The rest gave no fucks whatsoever.

People are complete idiots and won't listen to rules and standards, this is becoming fact during this pandemic. We can't be trusted to follow along with safety standards. It must be regulated or this will just continue to spread and blow up. Millions will die, because of the general public's pig headedness, ignorance and stubbornness. A tremendous and disturbing number of people die as a result.

So what's more important, opening back up and having millions die, so businesses can make money, or protecting human numbers so humans are alive to spend money?

If stores actually offered masks on the way in, or at least sold them, more people would wear them. There's such a mask shortage that doctors have to operate without them.

You don't understand. People are losing their jobs. Food doesn't just appear in the grocery store. We need truck drivers. We need employees to stock the shelves. We need farmers growing the food. And the farmers need buyers. The entire system will collapse if the country isn't re-opened. And then many will die.

Because these nutjobs are everywhere. Your style of dishonest faux concern should really be against the rules here; people like you just stoke the flames that embolden the idiots. Those idiots in turn are the direct cause for the lockdown going on for longer than it would have if we had all just hunkered down in the first place.

I fully understand, I actually do farm on a small scale, but provide for my local community. It was in direct response to maintaining high sanitation standards, and the fact that a very small percentage are willing to do so. It's a false expectation that will continue to kill people and spread this virus.

If the nation had a unified response from the beginning (Trump knew this was potentially an issue as early as January and did nothing), we might now be at the point where we could safely do phased reopening. Thanks to all of the stubborn people who refused to social distance and wanted to rush through lockdowns, we're staring down a frightening potential second wave.

the reality for many of us will be choosing to lose our livelihood or taking a chance to lose our life.

the fear is what really drives what we do: re-opening and keeping the quarantine. nobody knows whats going on and things are changing day by day.

theres no guarantee for anybodys safety post pandemic.

testing is an issue. every business in the world cannot test all their employees, regularly and consistently. how can we control the rate of infection?

i feel we are set to fail reopening and is not gonna end well for anybody. there was no exit lockdown plan. we are divided in this as a country as well as divided in the world.

reopening is a reactive decision based on incomplete and perhaps misleading information and data.

The people demanding that the country reopen are, by and large, not the people going back to work at Wal-Mart, McDonald's, barbers, nail salons, furniture stores, etc. They're the upper class who want the working class to "get back to it" so they can get back to their petty creature comforts. They want to go out for brunch and get smashed on mimosas. They want to buy horribly tacky knick knacks. They want to get their nails done.

They're also, generally, already working from home and will continue to do so while the "common folk" get exposed and die. As you said.

Well, by now the rich have all bought their own ventilators and have taken measures to protect themselves, having their employees doing everything for them while they keep isolated. They certainly won't have a problem demanding that the regular joe goes to work because he has to make ends meet, right? If lots of people die or get handicapped because of having been infected by the virus, too bad for them. Money needs to be made and having a virus curbing population growth will be a good thing for the wealthy. Particularly if the ones dying are those with low purchasing power. Stockmarkets made a profit out of all this. Don't you just love capitalism?

pretty much!

i am very fortunate to be able to work from home. i would love everything to be go back to normal tomorrow if it was possible. but it aint. so imma err on the side of caution and the proper management of any 're-opening' as opposed to just throwing the doors open and to hell with everybody else. especially as the people in the firing line are going to be those with massively less privileged positions than i have.
