And used games, obviously.

You could buy two new games for $39.99 each and snag another $39.99 new game free.

Underpowered hardware means nothing. Countless of SNES, PS1, old consoles games are still good even if they're dated by hardware. They could have released MegaMan 9 and 10 for the NES and still would be good....those games came out in 2008 and 2010

Obviously the hardware isn't underpowered for games that don't require power. The games were built with those limitations in mind.

Not so with an unfortunate amount of what Nintendo tries to do. God, my poor Pokemon franchise.

Not a sale, those are clearly marked with a red price drop, like Borderlands 3
Original 27.99, sale 24.99
https://www.gamestop.com/video-games/playstation-4/games/products/borderlands-3/10175066.html

And in case you think this was some recent price change, the $30 used vs $10 new has been like that since August of last year

Do you understand how their used sales work? They're essentially selling new copies for the publisher and the publisher likely set that $10 new price.

Currently, their trade in price for the game is about $12 store credit. You could try flipping copies of it for a miniscule profit.

Don't know about that specific example but Gamestop has definitely done shady things on the Used price in the past. I remember back when Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii was going for $60 New $110 Used. The game got a second reprint and Gamestop opened all the new cases so they could all be sold for the Used price

Now that doesn't surprise me. They've also been caught opening new copies to remove advertisements for a digital game service that was competing with their own.

First off, that $12 trade in is for the switch version, which is $20 new. They aren't even accepting copies of the PS4 version, so no, you couldn't flip 'em

And second, yes I know how their pricing works, I just assumed that when you said "publisher sponsored sale", you were saying it was only $10 due to some sale that discounted most/all of a specific publisher's products, much like the publisher sales that Steam does every weekend.

And as Kuuko said, this isn't the first time they have done this. It just happens that in this case, Monster Boy isn't as popular as Xenoblade, so not too many eyes have been on this example.

I guess they learned their lesson after that legendary trade in deal a few years ago. People were buying copies of games for like $20 at Walmart and flipping them for double that at GameStop.

Personally, I just take advantage of this kind of deal if it's for a game I want; got a copy of Tetris Effect for like twenty bucks when it was brand new that way.

I doubt they're making big bucks selling used copies of Monster Boy instead of new.

This is wrong or misleading in multiple ways, namely the reprint copies were never sealed (and thus couldn't be "opened"), it was $89.99 Used (I'm not saying this is better, just be accurate here), and it wasn't "going" for $60 New at the time because there were no fricken copies left.

I may be confusing the $89.99 Used price with what the going-rate on Amazon climbed to. The supply and demand for the game was clearly intense before the reprint came around. People were buying the game, playing it for a few hundred hours, and then selling it to someone else for a profit.

If I'm using the wrong terminology on "sealed" and "opened" then by all means correct me. At the end of the day what I mean to point out is new copies of the game were printed and then sold as pre-owned to everyone. That's how I got scammed into buying my copy of the game actually.
