New York has received 25,000 complaints of noncompliance with reopening rules, governor says
https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/coronavirus-pandemic-06-14-20-intl/h_aa43132659b360a7fb36c5644810d198

I was going to give one of those anecdote posts that it looked like no one in my area was wearing masks or social distancing looks like there is an article of proof people stopped caring about corona in many parts of NY.

I went to grocery store today and they stopped doing the one person at a time and limit to who gets in. Also they didn't do the no mask no entry thing. Passed by a park and there were like 30 people together partying near a basketball court no one wearing masks. It was like pre-corona. And it not like we had a low corona count. We were the most hard hit state.

Arizona's shutting down again. There's no way they can avoid that unless they somehow double their hospital and iCU capacity overnight.

Depends on the area. I live in Las Vegas and I do see at least half the people wearing masks. Social distancing's being adhered to for the most part as well. I honestly fee that I'll be safe as long as I take precautions.

I live in hotspot Texas, and maybe only 50% are wearing masks anywhere. Bars and restaraunts are crowded.

People are just okay with their old family members and obese friends dying I guess. But then you realize a lot of people not wearing masks are old, and so I guess they're okay with dying for their political party. Unreal.

I believe that most people foregoing the masks, myself included, see the low mortality rate and decided that comfort is a bigger issue. It's not political at all.

I admit I am worried about what these protests could do to the spread. We shouldn't ignore one tragedy to address another. The protesters are just one subset of people though and it's like everyone forgot there was a pandemic and I fear nothing will shut down again even if things keep getting worse again.

We're paying the price for not addressing this on a national scale. We can open most things while also actually enforcing social distancing everywhere, but I guess that wouldn't make all the money, so the government and businesses are against it.

Our country is learning nothing from this pandemic except the quickest ways to pretend it doesn't exist.

Are hospitals admitting more covid patients recently? I know there's more cases recently, but I wasn't aware that hospitals were taking in more people. Can you provide a source? I'm interested in reading it.

Right now there's some cushion in states like Texas and Arizona, but there's legitimate concern that they could run out of available hospital beds in another month.

Nevada it was 227 with 1 death. Positive test percentage went down slightly and is at 5.3% the spikes in my state have corresponded with increased testing. Hospitalization remains stable and we only have 3 or less deaths per day. I think we're getting more of either the asymptomatic or mild cases that don't require hospitalization here I just wish the news would report that part of it instead of lumping us in with Arizona, Texas, and Florida..

But most people don't appear to be wearing masks anywhere. We can and should continue to protest and demand more from our country that fails us, but we can do it from a safe distance. Two birds with one stone. If only the powers that be actually gave a fuck and enforced social distancing everywhere and made sure real masks were available to everyone, instead of half assing a response and giving us self-masturbatory "now more than ever" bullshit.

I'm hoping there is a second stimulus check I could use the free money. As of right now doesn't seem Senate will pass it within the next 3 weeks.

NY numbers in early April was 7k-10k cases and 700-1k deaths a day. I don't think any other state has even averaged 5k confirmed cases over the course of a week since this started. That would suck if your area becomes the next NY. I'm in NYC probably hardest hit area in country. I found out a couple weeks ago 10 people in my building died from corona. If I hadn't overheard a couple people discussing it wouldn't have known. They were mad Landlord didn't say anything. I didn't notice they died since I barely left my apt over last 3 months.

Reported deaths are always lowest on Sundays. So I'm not reading into that too much. However, it does seem like deaths have decreased at a greater proportion compared to number of cases. Is it possible that the virus really has weakened a bit as some have speculated? Maybe just wishful thinking but that would be great if it were the case.

The reason total US cases has remained fairly steady is because cases have dropped quite a bit in former hotspots like the Northeast and Illinois. At the same time they're increasing in several states (most notably California, Arizona, North Carolina, Texas, and Florida).

Tbh, I think we are completely fucked. I don't think we will be able to make an effective vaccine for it. Society in poorer countries will start to collapse first. Looting and violence will start. Eventually richer countries will start to collapse as well.

I've been following this virus since mid January and have been saying then that I think this going to get really bad. I really hope I'm just being a doomer but my gut feeling hasn't been wrong about this so far.

When I was saying back in January that this shit was going to spread globally and start killing a lot of people, people were like you made similar replies.

Like I said, I hope I'm wrong but think about it objectively. If we can't find an effective way to fight the virus (via vaccine or proven medication), what are we going to do once it starts spreading uncontrollably pretty much everywhere? Sure, some countries will do a better job because of restrictions they'll put in place but that isn't guaranteed to work either.

What happens if the US has to shut down again. How long can people truly go for without being able to work and shit? On top of that, how long can the US afford to keep giving tens of millions, maybe even over a hundred million people money every month till they run out of money?

The fuck? What does the current protests have anything to do with what I was saying January? I support the protests, I'm even not angry at the riots (looters can go fuck off though) but do I think these protests have potential to cause a massive increase of cases? Abso-fucking-lutely and you'd have to be insane not to.

But when it comes down to it, my opinion of what is going to happen with the virus predates the protests and doesn't change whether they were happening or not.
