what is the fuck is going on here. I got the Sherwyn Williams code from my builder and they cant match it. Ive been there three times and they told me, oh after a year your touch up paint wont match.

i forgot they gave me a tiny can of touch up paint and it matches perfectly. I brought that with too and they still couldnt match it.

If it's the exact same paint after a few hours it dries it will match up. Make sure to shake it good before applying it.

If the paint store doesn't have the same one they'll match it as close to possible, but you'll have to redo the whole area. Believe me I know cause of my entire living room and hallway and basement area.

Is that from the tiny can they gave you that's the exact match? I find that odd.

I'm a painter. Is it the same type of finish? Or you're not sure or know what type of paint they used?

Yeah you gotta redo the whole thing.

I got a new small wall put up and I painted one side of the area I needed done. Luckily I didn't have to do the entire thing cause it's hours of painting. I'd suggest just repainting that entire wall only. The wall I repainted you can't tell compared to the next wall going the other way. But for just touch ups it's noticeable.

I also used the new paint colour that's like 98-99% close to the original one for touch up in the basement and you can easily notice it. I decided not to repaint that whole area, but after this new wall was put up I gotta do it anyway luckily it's a small area and I'll wait until winter since I'm not in a rush.

If it's not 100% the exact same it won't match. Some paint codes or whatever are no longer available so they can only match it so close. Call your local paint shop they'll tell you the same thing. When I brought the old colour in from the previous home owner cause the paint ran out the guy told me this.

Sometimes the color matches, but it's the level of glossiness that doesn't match. Is this your case?

Also, was that trying to match the code? Can they match from a sample of your touch-up can instead?

There is no "would of", "should of" or "could of".
There is "would've", "should've" and "could've".
