The area I grew up in wasn't anywhere near WASPy enough that people seriously considered attending Ivy League schools.

Went to school with a guy who went to Harvard. My pops got a full ride to Brown that he turned down back in the 70s.

Yes, and that person is a successful lawyer now. But I stayed with her in her NYC apartment and it was so much smaller than where I was living at the time when I was just bartending so wtf.

In all fairness she owns a nice home in Jersey now, it was a funny observation at the time though.

Yeah, a bunch of my colleagues did. I always troll them because I went to a state school and graduated with considerably less debt while we all make relatively the same amount of money now.

Financial aid = loans which you have to pay back.

If you meant scholarships, nah theres no difference. Many students in Ivy League schools come from rich backgrounds.

Not always. Pell grants are grants, you don't pay them back.

Grants, loans, and scholarships are all types of financial aid.

A girl I went to grade school with went to Cornell. I haven't really talked to her on the second grade but my mom's boyfriend knows her because he knows her parents and I realized who he was talking about.

I went to Franklin & Marshall for a year before I did a lot of drugs and lost my scholarship. They're borderline Ivy League. My brother has his Masters from Yale.

This is straight up not true, I know because I went to harvard for free, technically got paid since I got a bunch of other scholarships so I got money to go. I believe if you make less than 60k a year family wise you go for free.

https://college.harvard.edu/guides/financial-aid-fact-sheet
  • "20% of Harvard parents have total incomes less than $65,000 and are not expected to contribute.
  • Families with incomes between $65,000 and $150,000 will contribute from 0-10% of their income, and those with incomes above $150,000 will be asked to pay proportionately more than 10%, based on their individual circumstances."
Honestly seems pretty fair, if you make 100k, they expect you to pay what 10k per term? That's pretty damn generous.
