XCX: Elma, L, and H.B.? I change it up so much it's hard to remember....those are my favorite 3 characters, though
XC2: Morag, Zeke, Rex
Torna: There's only one possible party. Usually lead w/ Addam or Lora's team, though.

I've only played the first game. My favorite to play as is Dunban. Badass evasion tank.

Torna is vastly superior to 2 in every way except for story. That includes characters and voice acting.
If you paid for the DLC already anyway, you should play it. Torna fixed a ton of the issues with the main game (gacha system, godawful voice acting, annoying lead characters, blade combos being such a pain to do, swapping blades constantly for field skill checks, not being able to play as the blades, grinding merc missions endlessly, and more).
The two negatives are the story is somehow even worse (but XC2's was so bad that it's not much of a difference) and the "side quests" are mandatory to complete the game. Which is stupid, but whatever. Not hundreds of them, at least.

1: Shulk/Melia (roughly equal)
X: I'm not sure I ever actually played as anyone other than the main character
2: Rex has an unfair advantage in that he can use every blade, but discounting that for fairness' sake, probably Zeke

I rarely have. I did played as Elma once because of a specific move she had for the field. Then I got the move and didn't need to swap anymore...

It's in universe cringe if that makes you feel any better about it. In universe weeb Torra makes a robot combat waifu called poppi. Gives it an upgraded form later called poppiQT and then later you can upgrade her to a 3rd (and broken OP) form called poppiQTPi. They actually use the pi symbol IIRC. I'm pretty sure the Q and T stand for something. Everyone thinks Torra and his family are weirdo perverts which is basically correct.

Yeah, I linked b/c it was easier to show it was the pi symbol and has the full name for the QT acronym.

And if it makes him feel any worse about it.... the English names for Poppi are just silly puns (I thought they were funny, and I despise Tora overall). The Japanese names for her, on the other hand.... Yeesh...

I kind of like all the characters.... as far as teams:

XC1: First: Dunban, Shulk, and Sharla
Mid game: Melia (must control), Riki, and Sharla
End game: Shulk, Seven, Dunban

XCX: Can't really remember, there were so many recruit-able characters. I liked Elma, I liked L, H.B. was nice....

XC2: the way weapons work, you can pretty much have anyone on a team. Um, I'll go with Rex, Nia, and Tora. Maybe put Zeke in Tora's place and go all ether cannon destruction.

I got too frazzled trying to 100% X and kind of stopped playing. No one anywhere knew the full outcomes or placements for filling out the affinity chart or finding all conversations and knowing their outcomes. For XC1, at the time, I had the most filled out affinity chart I had seen anywhere on the net, and I think I had gotten it as filled out as possible. Every new area, I would talk to EVERYONE in the game EVERY THREE IN-GAME HOURS.

Monolith needs to make a complete strategy guide or something. Why program all this stuff and not tell anyone?

The goal with something like that is for it to feel organic. They don't want you to talk to everyone every 3 hours.

I do miss X. It's a pretty flawed game but the parts it does well, it does better than any other game. Also it's one of my few gaming achievements. I beat pharsis the everqueen first on NA according to the in game kill tracker thingy. Well, at least first of everyone connected to online. I was a few days ahead of second place.
