Skin changing isn't new. Even as far back as 2004 they had site settings to choose between the "new" white style with Verdana font and the "classic" blue and purple tables with Arial.

I think universal profiles are an underappreciated modern feature (being able to view a user's profile just by putting their name in the URL). Before that, you could only see profiles when they were linked from an active post, otherwise there's no way to see them.

You know what else is underrated? The hover menu on your username in topics to get to your active posts lists (or the other links but they're not important). I used the hover constantly and I even try to use it on other sites before I remember that they don't have it.

I think ignore lists are outside of "10 years ago." Pretty sure they came about in 08 or 09.

Polls are great. This topic features a poll.
Friend list seems pointless, because what do you really do with it? You aren't playing games together.
Ignore/Block list is for thin skinned right wingers and thin skinned left wingers. Don't really need to live in a mother's womb.
Change Skins is fine I guess.
PM's is a necessary feature for most people, so that's a good additon.
Image uploading is great.
Spoiler tags is needed for any message board. Gotta have those.
Quote tags? What happened before when you quoted people? You couldn't? Damn, GameFAQs is behind in times if this was in the past 10 years. This has to be Number 1.
Tagging users is cool, sure.
Emojis? I don't even see this feature. But sure, they are fine I guess.

No. While I admit there are very few users on Board 8 worthy of these lists, game/system boards are filled with users that are so unbearably disruptive that they make the board completely unreadable unless you hit the ignore button.

PMs > spoiler tags > embedded images > tagging users > quote tags > others

Quote tags are being overrated imo. It's a nice timesaver, but not necessary (copy + italicize worked just fine), as opposed to features like spoiler tags that actually add functionality.

Spoilers, then Quoting. Throw in Polls and honestly the rest of those are extraneous (or not actually new like the CSS/Site Display)

Polls, definitely. The old-fashioned way of doing polls works great sometimes, but other times it's just so much easier to have the results right in front of you.

quoting was an annoying feature half the time because people would just block quote entire conversations and fill up the page with them because they didn't realize you could just highlight the part you want to respond to and hit quote to just quote that part

it's better now that it only quotes the actual post and not other quotes

and polls were fun at first until people realized you could stuff them and for some reason they never get tired of ruining them

so probably spoiler tags because the old way of doing spoilers was pretty annoying and it was still easy to accidentally spoil someone or get spoiled anyway
