I didn't see the original post but I think this actually is a good metaphor in terms of the mods getting punch-drunk on power and escalating things wildly. Like, every so often there's an incident where stuff gets modded, people get mad and keep posting about it, more stuff gets modded, and soon the mods are deleting everything in sight that's tangentially related/supportive even if it's not remotely actually moddable.
