I don't know who that is.
NFL QB for the New Orleans Saints. ONe of the best/most known/popular players in the league.

He was asked about the possibility of players kneeling during the anthem again this season given everything that has happened and he said he would never agree with anyone "disrespecting the American flag or our country" and went into a speech about how his grandfathers served in the military.

He got absolutely ripped apart by other players in the NFL, including his own teammates in some cases. He issued an apology on Instagram about an hour ago.

Shame because his response was a good one. Obviously it is what he believes though, and he is just saying what people want to hear for financial reasons.

He doesn't have to reconsider anything. He is allowed to have his opinion as much as the next person. You are arguing for censorship during a time where people are protesting to have their feelings heard. Stop being hypocritical to the cause.

Yeah, the origin was back in the cursed year of 2016. The story would come up occasionally after that as Kaepernick's saga with the NFL and how he was essentially run out of the league played out via legal challenges alleging collusion, etc. would have updates and we'd talk about it.

Yup. It's absolutely not censorship if you listen to what somebody has to say, decide they're an asshole, and tell them to fuck off.

Unrelatedly, people heard what Drew Brees had to say, decided he was an asshole, and told him to fuck off.

They say Freedom of Speech but what they mean is Freedom from Consequences.

And because it seemingly bears repeating every time. Kaepernick started his protest by simply sitting on the bench during the anthem. He was then approached by Nate Boyer a retired Green Beret and former player who said he should kneel instead because it was a more respectful gesture and Kaepernick listened and started kneeling instead.

Trying to distort the narrative into it being "disrespect" was always a politically motivated hijack from the right (and Trump especially since this was the 2016 campaign remember) to discredit and shut down any conversation on the actual substance that was there because that's not a conversation they are comfortable having and cynically felt they could use it to inflame racial tensions and drive votes in the election.

Anyone with a shred of objectivity knew that wasn't what it was about.
