My father got a call for his liver transplant today. They say the liver might be a little too big for him, but it's a suitable match and they can work with it.

Remember, last time they called him and the liver was no good, so we'll see if they go through with the operation. It really is awful that my father has to get such a serious surgery(it's 11 hours procedure on average) in the midst of the coronavirus AND massive social unrest... I guess all I can do is pray that everything goes well.

The donor is 32 years old, so it's a young person's liver, likely good quality. My dad could have his life saved today or tomorrow(depending on when they do the surgery) unfortunately, due to the circumstances we can't even accompany him to his surgery or be at the hospital. He must be dropped off(I think maybe my mom can go, but no one else) and left there, at least he'll have access to his phone but this is a nightmare situation and he's very scared.

Again, this could be called off like last time, we'll see if they go through with it. He needs the liver so bad, and me and my pastor prayed for my father intensely yesterday for a new liver and healthy recovery. Amazing results, we thought he was never going to be called again since the last time he got called was early February days before my birthday.

Pray for my father.

*sigh*

Updates on the situation: there was some confusion between the surgeon and my father. They called him at 7am and he was not rested since yesterday he had an appointment to redo the transplant process. According to the surgeon he denied the transplant, but my dad is saying he never denied it, he's saying she told him it might be too large for him, he asked her whether it would be compatible and she said it could be, so he said OK let's do it. Because my father is foreign and speaks Spanish, I believe she understood that he was denying the liver because it was kind of big, so they told him they would call him later on today and instructed him to take his medicines and eat. An hour ago his personal surgeon called screaming asking why he would turn down a good organ, and my dad was like "what are you talking about? I thought the operation was on?" the doctor says "no you turned it down" he says "no I didn't, I was just concerned that if it was too big it wouldn't be compatible, last time you guys didn't tell me the liver was no good, so why would you tell me it might be too big this time?" so now we're all kind of in limbo trying to figure out what is going to happen next. Again, complications... Can't catch a darn break. Hopefully they can keep the guy alive til tomorrow and just have my dad come in for surgery tomorrow in the morning.

Update:

Well, dropped him off at the hospital. Due to coronavirus nobody could accompany him. There's a 95% chance of survival and a 90% chance of survival past the 1st year. Was very sad seeing him walk by himself into the hospital with both of us having to say our goodbyes outside the hospital with the car running. Said a prayer on the way to the hospital for him, he's not very religious though. Now it's time to see whether they'll actually go through with the surgery, and whether it all goes without any complications.

You know what's really weird, around 5pm my mom got a call from his nurse and she was very upset. She said she had been calling several times and went straight to voicemail, the weird thing is my dad had his phone in his hands. By sheer chance my mom picked up that call, it was a really strange number, and because of it we were able to get in touch with the staff and coordinate the procedure. I don't know if that's a good or bad sign, but it was very odd indeed. After my dad restarted his phone he was able to get calls. Mind you this phone is brand new.

Thank you for the good wishes, I really appreciate it.

Update #4, he's currently getting operated on. I guess the liver was a good enough match for them to go through with the operation.

Prayers for my father to make a quick and speedy recovery so he can be at our house, may this surgery have no complications and go smoothly. May my father be better than before after this. In Jesus name. Amen.

Just got to speak to my dad. He's acting a bit weird, but he's fine. Looks like everything turned out OK. They had to open him back up due to a complication after the surgery was done. He is now OK and is speaking to us every few hours through the phone.

Good to hear.
Open up a body takes it toll on the body, and he must still have some drugs in the body, but it sounds like it is going in the right direction.

Thanks for the support guys. He should be home sometime next week if all goes well. He's now able to walk a little bit. He was in pretty good health when he got this transplant, so he's making really great progress. Can't wait to have him at the house again!

I had strong faith that he was going to make it, the hardest part of this was waiting for the transplant cuz he was slowly fading every day, that was tough to watch, and then when the pandemic hit donors became hard to find(most donors come from car accidents) but it's over, I have a good feeling he's got a lot more years left in him now.

I imagine it was very tough for my father, there were days where he would say stuff like, "they're just saying they're doing transplants for me not to lose faith, I'll never get a donor, they should've given me that first one they called me for, now I'm going to die."

He had hepatitis, cirrhosis, and then he developed liver cancer. He beat the cancer but his liver was so damaged at that point the wisest move was to find a donor.
