In Revenge of the Sith, after Anakin tells Mace Windu that Palpatine is the Sith Lord they've been searching for, Mace tells Anakin that he has earned Mace's trust, and instructs him to wait in the Council Chamber until Mace returns.

If Anakin had just listened and stayed put, Mace would've killed Sidious and then they would've finally granted Anakin the rank of Jedi Master.

Why else would he have Anakin wait in the Council Chamber?

Makes it that much sadder. :(

He was meant to bring balance to the force :p

Anakin probably cared more about this stupid ass mythical power to "save lives" than a silly title at this point. It's unlikely him being an official master would mean anything.

EU went into it. he pretty much realized that he had nothing left but getting strong enough to kill the emperor.

I wonder if Vader was too weak (compared to Anakins full potential) to bring people back from the dead like Plagueis and Sidious or if Sidious was just too much of a dick to teach Vader.

Anakin with full potential is supposed to be the most Supreme being ever, right? Or is prime Yoda above that?

they never really had the ability to bring random people back from the dead, they were looking for a way to make themselves immortal. the "plot" from ep9 where sidious comes back was lifted from old EU comics about sidious using dark side fuckery to make his spirit immortal.

sidious was too much of a dick to teach anakin. i'm not sure if this is considered spoilers so i'll just spoiler text it all.

In the EU, sidious never really wanted anakin to get stronger then him. he had abandoned the rule of two, where you're supposed to teach your apprentice and make them strong enough to kill you and take your place. he saw himself at the end of that cycle, and saw a stronger anakin as someone that could kill him which ran counter to his plans for immortality. so he gimped him, he put him in a crap suit with bad prosthetics and limited how much vader could learn under him.

If everything with Palpatine had gone differently and he was defeated, I think Anakin would have left the Order anyway. Either he'd have been forced out once his relationship with Padme was revealed or he would have left on his own accord.

there were sitting council members with children, and anakin was so popular that they wouldn't have been able to remove him. he'd have likely been sidelined once his wife and kid came out though.

I think it was just Ki-Adi-Mundi who falls under that category because of his species' low birth rate. But I'm not even sure if that's canon anymore.

I do think Anakin leaving the Jedi would more likely be his own choice though. I think a lot of Jedi would recognize how important his service in the Clone Wars was. I can't imagine banning him would be a popular decision at all. And he'd have both Yoda and Obi-Wan in his corner in all likelihood.
