Any routine stop and they could get shot, and it happens more often than you'd think

cop deaths are incredibly few compared to the amount of people they kill each year. 0 cops died from anything except disease and friendly fire over the past two years in NYC for example.

No it doesn't.

Well yea. That's why if you get pulled over, you do everything you can to be nonthreatening:

• If you have tints or it's dark out, roll down all windows (weather permitting),
• If it's dark out, turn all interior lights on,
• Turn off your music and engine,
• Pull over in a safe place for both you and the officer,
• Be cordial and respectful,
• Clearly state your intent before doing something (e.g. "My license is in my pocket, I am going to reach for it"), and
• Let the officer know of anything that might pose a threat to him (e.g. "I have a carry license and I am carrying a weapon / I have a pistol in my glove box").

You do all this stuff, officer will return you the favor by being respectful and cordial back at you, and perhaps even letting you off with a warning (if you were pulled over doing something illegal).

Same goes for that 89 though. Around half are labeled as accidents. Im not sure exactly what falls into that category though. Either way, you're drastically more likely to be killed by the police than vice versa.

Oh and if you do end up with a ticket, don't argue, don't do anything memorable; just sign and leave. Then consider your options:

• Accept guilty plea and pay, or
• Contest it in court.

If the ticket is less than $200 and/or carries no points, just pay it. If it's more and/or carries points, it might be worthwhile to contest it in court OR hire a traffic lawyer.

If you go to contest it in court, know that before you actually talk to a judge, the prosecutor might discuss with you options to accept a lower plea instead of actually contesting it, even if you are not represented by a lawyer. So it might be worth a trip.
