Exactly.

how can you earn 100k, which is probably 80k after takes and save 150k for a down payment by your 30s?
Extremely easily...

I live in Canada. It's not the same as the states. You either live in a ridiculously expensive urban area (there's 3 of them) or you live in the middle of fucking nowhere.

My city has 10% of the population of Canada in it. My province has 50% of the population.

Ah. I'm sorry to hear that.

I'd say you should come to the US and take advantage of the relatively low cost of living, but maybe you don't want to give up the cheaper healthcare.

That makes some sense only if you never expect to leave anything to your children.

Im sure my landlord would be cool with them taking over the lease if they want it, though if I have adult children they likely already have their own homes.

Also I dont believe in NEEDING to have something material to pass onto your children. For example if/when my parents die I dont need, want or expect to be given their money or possessions when I die, I have my own stuff, my own house and my own money. If im the next of kin and entitled to their stuff, sure ill take it, but I dont expect them to prepare an inheritance for me.

The classic boomer argument is Would you rather pay $1,500 a month to someone else or $1,500 to something thats yours?

1. It becomes yours in 30 years so youre basically almost dead by the time that happens.

2. Is it really YOURS? It is city land subject to city law, city taxes and home insurance inspections. Sounds like a more ambiguous landlord to me.

At the same time though, as long as you didn't trash the house and maybe even upgraded it, in ten years you can sell the house and recoup most/all of the money, or even come out with a profit.

Like my house now, I bought it when the market was a little low and got a good value, if i out a little more money in I can sell it for probably 25k or more profit and it's only been 5 years.

No, obviously this situation isn't the same for everybody but generally it can work out that way.

But I'm also in the camp of who the fuck cares live however you want to. It's your life and it doesn't matter how anyone else is "supposed to be" at the same time in their life. It doesn't matter at all.

Who the heck has 200k for a down payment to spare at 30?

200k is a whole house in some places.

Not if they have your attitude to inspire them. That is the kind of shortsighted attitude that dissuades generational wealth.

Read the rest of what I wrote.

Also generational wealth usually makes the next generation into shitty, selfish, spoiled assholes because they never had to work for anything. My dad was always there if I was in an absolute bind that wasnt my fault due to sheer bad luck BUT I had to get my own job at 16, pay all my own bills and climb through the ranks of life on my own.

Oh TC, no, def no.

I'm 29 but I'll be 30 in december. I have never received proper economy advice from my parents because they too were pretty reckless with money. I had to learn the very bad way the value of money.

I'm mexican, this means that whatever you do in the states pretty much means you probably earn 2 or three times whatever I do here, even as a professional.

I work from 8 am until my boss feels like leaving the office, which is late because he hates being in his house. So I have no life during weekdays, some weekends I have to work as well. I teach three unpaid classes at the university I work, but I also am a campus life promoter and a comunnity manager. I earn by month a total of 602.595USD and because I left home I have to take care of all my expenses, which lead me to a total of 92.7069USD to spare.

And that's being lucky, there are people with family who will earn half of what I make. I seriously doubt I'll be a home owner by my early 30s.

This is a vent post, yes, but I also have made very poor life desicions, like coming back to this horrible piece of **** city where I currently live out of fear and major autosabotage.

This just reads like sour grapes over families who have passed down some material worth.

Not at all, because I never wanted or expected my parents to give me money or property when I die. Im an adult and taking care of myself. I see you ignored everything else I said and focused on one sentence.

The rest of it wasn't relevant to the topic of home ownership vs renting. No one cares if your dad was there for you and you had your own job since 16.

Those things were in response to the guy saying What will you leave to your children if you dont own a home? so they absolutely do matter.

Though you sound like an angry child with no real counter-points to make so im probably gonna move on from you after this post.
