That man never should have had a statue

I'm glad people are waking up to the fact that the UK played a role in American slavery. Many of the slaves were caught in Africa by British people who then sold them to Americans. But the British have largely always acted like they were better than us for not having slaves in Britain

Why did he have a statue?

He's a huge historical figure in England.

He built schools and hospitals and churches and donated immense amounts of money to the poor. He was historically seen as a hero and has a number of places/streets etc named after him.

But he got his wealth from selling slaves. So.... People be pissed.

It's the same thing you see about Colombus and George Washington

It's not an edge.
History is history, you can't change it. Ripping down an inanimate object which could symbolize anything is like banning the letter x from math. It doesn't matter.
It doesn't mean anything.
George Washington profited more from slaves than anyone since the ancient greeks. The ancient greeks captured and sold each other into slavery.
The pyramids in Egypt were built by slaves, why aren't those being ripped down?
Why aren't the protestors in D.C. ripping down the Washington monument?
Why is a State named after Washington?

Why do people pick and choose what to destroy rather than using unbiased, equal judgement?

The low effort here is on the part of yourself and others trying to discredit me by pointing to my account "karma". Don't kid yourself.
Also don't delude yourself with the claim that black people need or need not a say. What I said had no reflection on black people. India has black people. Africa has brown and white people. The northern part of Africa, for at least half a millennia, was Roman.
A small partition of the African continent, partially consisting people who local Kings deemed to be unfit for jails during a time of border wars, were even sold to ship traders, so using the word "black" as if "slavery" is a "black" struggle while many Africans were proud people who lived interesting, cultured lives marks your own confusion and lethargy over the history you so claim to be interested in.

No.

But I guess now wouldn't be a bad time to point out that if a person with leukemia passed out during a party and his friends thought it would be funny to draw a swastika on his neck, and that person walked down the street tomorrow, you'd call him a neo-nazi skinhead without a second thought.

My point was symbols can mean anything and if you let the symbol mean bad things then "x you" sounds more hateful than "love you."
You can't let your own mind cloud your judgement. You don't know someone from history. You don't know if they would have championed black rights if they grew up in the luxury of modern times.
You just don't know. You can't know. It's impossible to know. Let the dead rest.

It's NOT concern trolling.
But if people rebuild the statue and put it back up, you shouldn't take it to mean they endorse racism no more than I take its knocking down to mean anti-racism.
Because *LOUD WET FART NOISE* as someone aptly pointed out, doesn't necessarily mean they're against racism or even that they disagree with what I said. loud wet fart noise could mean they're trying to contribute to the topic in a meaningful way.
Because it's an action and actions are symbols and symbols can mean anything.
If you want to tell someone what you think, you have to use language, not actions.

Like for example I personally hate all statues. I would gladly see that every single statue is ripped down on Earth.
So if I show up to a rally to rip down any statue. Let's say that Winston Churchill statue recently posted.
Does that mean I'm talking about human rights, racism, anti-racism? Fascism? Antifa?

Or does it mean that I just hate statues? Because I can tell you, 100% without a doubt, statues make me mad. So, obviously, if I attend one of those group outings where me and the lads rip down a statue, I'm definitely just there to rip down the statue and nothing else.

I never said the statue meant nothing. I said it could mean anything.
Just like white light contains all colors, that doesn't make white light red. It can mean anything.
Dead bodies aren't people. Wet fart noise. Throw them into the ocean. Wet fart noise.

If this still isn't clicking in your head then re-read the thread. If it's still not clicking, let it fester for a week or two. After that, if you've got nothing, you're hopeless. Regardless, I'm done here.

You said that people who are holding an anti-racist protest tear down a statue of a racist slave trader as part of their anti-racist protest can't be taken at face value as doing so as part of their ideology of anti-racism, because its possible they're just doing it because they hate all statues.

And now you're crying and (ironically) shitting your pants because people are claiming that your views have the same consistency as the noise a wet fart make.

Even though you should welcome such a comparison since by your own logic, it's possible that you don't actually mean any of the things you say in a cohesive argumentative fashion, and every word you write is actually just random air pressure from your wet farts pushing the keys on your keyboard down.
