I probably played some random arcade games in the early 80's when I was super little but I can't remember. in like 1985 or something my older brother found an old atari 2600 at a garage sale and that was my early beginnings. but then in like 86 or 87 we got a NES and that's really where I got into it for good. I think of the Atari as like the prologue to my gaming life. and the NES to be Chapter 1

Apparently according to my parents I played the NES they had when I was 2. I don't remember that though.

I do have conscious memories of playing it at around 5 years old after it got moved to my grandparents house. This was 1995 (so it had been out for a while) and I remember playing the Mario/Duck Hunt combo, Mega Man 2, and the first Zelda. Around that time we got a Genesis with Sonic 2 and Lion King and that was the first console we had at our own house.

So I'd say my own beginning was with the NES/Genesis but more Genesis since it was closer to its release date. Looks like PS1 was already out by that time but I didn't get one until like 1998ish.

NES era for me. My sister and I would beg my mom to rent one constantly, and finally she got tired of that and bought us one for Christmas.

I had an Atari 2600 when I was 6. Around that time my grandfather would take me to the local arcade every Saturday.

Played my parents' NES since before I could remember. The first "new" system I had was the PS1. Also got an N64, but just a year before the Gamecube came out.

My dad bought me the NES Action Set with the zapper and SMB/Duck Hunt. I could have sworn this happened when I was 4 years old, but from what I'm reading online that game came out in November of '88 so I would have been 5 at the time. Memory is foggy going that far back, and I can't recall if I knew what a video game was prior to.

Anyway according to my mom he bought it as a way of bonding with me. However after watching me play SMB a few times he seemed to find it too difficult to follow and just sat back and watched me occasionally. Honestly I never had the best connection with my father and this is one of the reasons why.

I played a few games on a Gameboy Color when I was 6(?), but I didn't really play games until I was 8-9, and I played all the Mysims games on my sister's DSi. Incidentally, I also discovered Gamefaqs shortly after that.

Probably when my parents bought me a used Mega Drive (Genesis) in the mid 90s, aged 5/6. I'd played games before that (I vaguely remember playing an Atari at home, and an NES, Amstrad and Master System at cousins'/friends' houses), but with the MD I was at a better age to really get into them. Then the PS1 and Pokemon on the GB sealed the deal (I may even have had the GB before the MD).
