Trump keeps spouting it. if the good cops were really that high in number we would NEVER hear about any problems with cops. maybe like one incident every 10 years or something. it just would not come up. people would love their cops. the country would be peaceful. but it's not true. obviously.

Are you sure about?

That and if you're afraid of bad cops just leave the inner city. That's usually where their consolidated.

it's all about accountability, if we really put the magnifying glass on the authorities that oversee police forces and made sure they took complaints seriously, i think more cops would be outspoken about corruption. unfortunately as it stands, shit gets brushed under the rug, then the cop find outs who snitched and tries to make the snitch's time on the force a living hell because there are still cliques and crowds like they're highschoolers.

Police unions will protect even bad cops, sometimes threatening to pull back, basically saying they wont do their jobs. Teachers unions usually dont protect teachers who sleep with their students.

And if a bad cop gets fired hell just get rehired at the next precinct nearby. Bad cops get moved around just like pedophile priests.

Its not random individual cases, its a systemic issue.

What percent would you say are decent people?

What percent of regular people do you think are decent people?

I think when it comes to normal people I would say it's maybe 50/50.

for cops I think it is probably pretty low. like maybe less than 25% of all the nations cops could be considered to be decent human beings

You sure about that? You also pointed out it is the union. These are systemic issues, legislation, votes... not individuals. Then again you don't understand the difference between the private and public sector.

as someone who used to be anti gay marriage, yes. I feel it's wrong to take that stance and I am glad I evolved.

there are degrees though. like it doesn't for sure mean the person is 100% evil. but it does make them some degree of mean to their fellow humans. everyone is different and it's a various combination of bad opinions that cause someone to count as "evil"

https://www.statista.com/statistics/191694/number-of-law-enforcement-officers-in-the-us/

So I'm estimating that there are 700,000 police officers employed in the US.

Assuming that each instance of the claimed 500 abuses are by a different officer.

That comes to 0.071428571428571428571428571428571% of the National Police force mis-behaving.

thats a terrible one to bring up lol. If youre against people getting the benefits of marriage solely because of their sexuality then you are for sure a bad person.

Your stance would literally be that they shouldnt reap benefits others have available. Id love to see what backwards logic goes into thinking that someone isnt a bad person for that though, you know, for laughs.

Because most cops are good. And when a cop does abuse their power, it's played on the news nonstop for at least a week to make it seem like that's all that cops do. But they never bother to report on the good things cops to every day. You don't heart about them rushing into gunfire to save someone from the drug cartels, or going into a burning building to save a child. Plus cops have been maligned in tv shows and movies for that last few decades which also influences public opinion to an extent.

not every abuse of power makes the national news. There are many many cases that never get made public. or we hear about them way later. like this story

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/investigations/2020/06/08/texas-police-chase-ends-death-i-cant-breathe-man-cries/3137476001/

this happened over a year ago. but it only just now came into the national awareness. and only because of the George Floyd murder and ensuing calls for justice around the country.

There are roughly 800000 law enforcement officers in America so 1% of that is 8000.

That's 8000 officers with documented instances of acting out of conduct.
We don't necessarily see those numbers simply and sadly because of the hive-minded mentality of officers(not reporting misconduct), as well as the laws that are designed to pardon these injustices even when they become known to the public.
