Berseria story falls apart worse than Zestiria but yeah both stories are not great. Berseria had a lot of potential to be good but then it completely turned south about halfway through the game.

Tales is a weird series for me. The games are alright for a playthrough but i've never really been into the skits or anything. Plus if you're not that into the action rpg style of play then it can get boring pretty fast. Feels like they don't innovate it enough between games.

I just couldn't get into Zestiria at all. Maybe it's because I played it while I was sick and wasn't grasping it or something, but the story just seemed like "HEY I'M A SHEPHERD NOW DOING SHEPHERD THINGS. WHY? WHO KNOWS?!"

Granted I'm not sure I got very far. I remember doing some like ghost town thing, or atleast some haunted mansion or whatever. And I remember... Fixing a bridge? And fighting some guy in like the mountains or whatever that I'm pretty sure is on the box so he probably joins but I don't think he joined at the time. That may be the last thing I did.

Yeah I know exactly where you got to. That's pretty much as good as it gets, it's quite a while before it starts to get worse but it plateaus there.

Other than one specific pretty radical scene towards the end.

I liked the series alot back when it was 2d. I feel it got too weird, busy, and slow when the 3d planes got introduced. Thats why I was able to excuse Legendia alot. To Mershiness' chagrin

I just looked up Tales character fan popularity polls and errr it seems either the fanbase has awful opinions or mine are pretty wildly divergent from the consensus.

I WANT to like Zestiria, and I want to beat it. I've liked every Tales game I've played, which is like everything from Symphonia onward, with the exception of Symphonia 2. I just couldn't get into it and I sorta hated the battle system.

I still really like Phantasia. People ALWAYS GO "LOL ITS DATED" or "ITS OLD" but shit, its still one of the better ones IMO

Wish i bought Vesperia on the 360 back in the day. I'd never played the series at the time though and when they announced it was delayed in Europe i gave them the middle figure and never bothered with it.

Yeah, I was pretty bothered by that once I finally played it. It was supposed to be a solution to targeting multiple characters which... they could've just had it cycle which character you targeted. There was some weird Art of Fighting multi-plane stuff too. Just a bunch of ideas thrown together.

But it introduced ABA and had a great soundtrack. And custom color palates. Why isn't that a standard feature?

As long as I'm not fighting multiple casters at once, I enjoy Zesty's combat quite a lot. And the entire cast is fun to use. Which is something only Berseria and Graces F can also boast.

Once again, Xillia 2. (Granted, Ludger is so absurdly fun to play that he still overshadows everyone else in both the game and the series, but that entire cast is still more fun than your average Tales MC if you learn them!)

What was this moment?

Mayvin's death is exactly the point when everything begins to fall apart. Even if you did manage to avoid the absurd full game fetch quest you are given around it by finding all the collectable along the way, the production and presentation takes an immediate downwards plummet from this point on. This eventually culminates near the end with the game giving you a neat checklist of where to go to tie up every dangling plot thread in the game, each of which is given the presentation and grandiose of Geralr finding a woman's pot in Witcher 3.

Berseria is the second best Tales behind Abyss imo. Both Zestiria and Berseria have great soundtracks.

Go Shiina's tracks on Zestiria are all straight up godly, but I'd argue Sakuraba's part of that OST is him at his least inspired. He bounced back with Berseria though, especially the character themes.
