Like damn, most often people get depressed because of things they want but dont have, but he had one of the biggest bands in the world and was happily married with 6 kids.

I wonder if drugs/alcohol played a role and messed with his mind.

Isnt depression a legit disease?

like, chemical imbalances in your brain, which may not have a reason to be. That would explain it

even with someone you're close to, you can never fully know what they're going through, their mind state, etc.

so with us, with no personal relationship with him, I doubt we'll ever know.

All I know is, it's been proven time and time again that fame and money doesn't prevent it.

Bennington was a victim of sexual abuse from an older male friend when he was seven years old.[10] He was afraid to ask for help because he did not want people to think he was gay or lying, and the abuse continued until he was 13 years old.[11] Years later, he revealed the abuser's identity to his father, but chose not to pursue him after he realized the abuser was a victim himself.[12]
Bennington's parents divorced when he was 11 years old. The abuse and his situation at home affected him so much that he felt the urge to run away and kill people.[11] To comfort himself, he drew pictures and wrote poetry and songs.[11] After the divorce, Bennington's father gained custody of him.[7] Bennington started abusing alcohol, marijuana, opium, cocaine, meth, and LSD.[7][8][12] He was physically bullied in high school. In an interview, he said that he was "knocked around like a rag doll at school, for being skinny and looking different".[13] At the age of 17, Bennington moved in with his mother. He was banned from leaving the house for a time when his mother discovered his drug activity.[7] He worked at a Burger King before starting his career as a professional musician.[8]

I mean, there's also a spectrum from general feelings of being unmotivated and down, to deep feelings of meaninglessness and suicidal thoughts

While finacial issues can be stressful and certainly worsen the state of mind of someone dealing with depression, I wouldn't necessarily say they cause it

They were very close friends. Chester became godfather to one of Cornell's son. He also hung himself on Cornell's birthday.

Cool. I never suggested they did.

This is why you need to watch the documentary cause you obviously don't get it. Benoit felt lost and hopeless once he lost his best friend too. The horrific outcome was a result of his brain damage, not him losing his friend.

Chris Benoit had the brain of an 85 year old Alzheimers patient from 10,000 chairshots. He is a different situation.

Not to mention the fact that him and Nancy had a tumultuous marriage filled with domestic abuse for years prior to Eddies death.

@EffectAndCause

i saw an interview where he said he couldnt be alone by himself: he said that hes all fun and games when he is with people, but when he is by himself he goes into his mind. This is a bad place, he said, pointing into his head.

also, I saw a video of him singing a song in remembrance of Chris Cornell at a concert. He was trying to hold back tears while singing, it was really hard to see.

Even without all his abuse, which I'm sure didn't fucking help any, you can't really "beat" depression. You manage it. You are constantly seeking to alter or adjust your default state, in which you do not thrive.

When I was about 16 I went on accutane which cleared my skin up, but the downside was severe depression and suicidal thoughts for the time I was on it. Never been depressed before or since, it was chemically induced.

Real, clinical depression isn't something you win against, unfortunately. It's something you fight and learn to manage throughout your entire life. Sometimes it gets the upper hand though.

Generally receiving positive reviews from critics upon its release, Hybrid Theory became a strong commercial success.[1] Peaking at number two on the US Billboard 200, it is certified 11x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It also reached the top 10 in 15 other countries and has sold 27 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling debut album since Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction (1987) and the best-selling rock album of the 21st century.

Let's be fair: People without depressed can "get depressed", people with depression "are depressed". Although, even then, those are more different than they sound. A flaw of the language.
