It is a tactic they train officers to use to subdue a suspect, including in Minneapolis for their police department. But once you're down, subdued and cuffed, as was the case with Floyd, there's categorically no reason to keep your knee on someone's neck.

This video is bizarre, was the cop unable to subdue her on the ground and quickly cuff her, instead of awkwardly pinning her to a couch like some kind of weird porno?

If it's a tried and true tactic (and I've seen photos of Israeli soldiers using that manuever on Palestinians), then it's not lethal and it corroborates with the police released autopsy that his airways were completely intact and he died from heart failure.

Generally, the tactic is to put your knee down just below the neck, near your back. This will subdue the suspect. Problem is, these officers never get tested or retrained after the initial training, so they slip up and go for the neck instead.

My friend, who is a cop himself, says that the knee thing is one of the few things you can do to subdue a suspect. However, you're suppose to cuff them right after and you're suppose to do it somewhere on the top of the back and not on the neck... to you know prevent from killing them and all that.

Chokeholds are also tried and true, but much like this hold it becomes more dangerous and potentially lethal the longer you keep someone in it
