Minimum wage is redundant. It's either going to be too high in some cities or too low in others, and every city and state already has the power to set their own minimum wage.

It depends on state. But there are several other states which also have a 7.25 minimum wage for 2020 such as Utah, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Idaho.

You say that its incredibly easy. Especially with corona going on.

So many people live in their bubble and think their experiences are the same for everyone else.

Minimum wage should go up to a livable wage.

No, it shouldn't. Working at an ice cream shop shouldn't allow you to own a car, pay rent and go on vacations. It is a starting point in one's life.

Even if everyone suddenly became super motivated and put 100% of their lives into getting a better-paying job, there will still be people on the bottom rung getting paid minimum wage. The minimum wage must be a living wage.

No. This has been a thing since before the pandemic. Its very easy to find jobs that pay a livable wage...you just might have to do actual labor as opposed to making sandwiches or pushing a mop. If you are a capable human being, get off your lazy ass and go get a job that pays enough.

Now does the whole minimum = livable account for reduced hours due to lack of available funds to pay that? Not all jobs can really afford to do that, so they would just make more stuff part time to account for that,

Think through what you said for more than five seconds.

If only high school kids have those jobs, they'll be closed during school hours and when kids are asleep. If adults should be ashamed of having those jobs, you're going to have constant turnover and every business is going to be run like shit because no one has worked there for more than two years.

Dude thinks the only people involved in fast food places are the bottom rung burger flippers. What about the managers, the operators, the maintenence people? For the most part they have to be adults, and frequently put in a lot of time and effort into the job. You don't think they deserve more than $7.25/hr?

Which is why it should be tailored for every city.

A livable wage in Seattle is different than one in Omaha which is different than one in Tallahassee. It shouldnt be a blanket wage that works for the high cost of living areas that fuck over low cost of living areas. It should also move with inflation according the the CPI.

This is correct. People making the federal minimum wage are extremely rare in the country. And even then it's still possible in low cost of living areas for two minimum wage earners to live in a $700 apartment or house and still have money left over. I know this because I used to make $13.80 paying about $675 in rent, plus utilities, phone, internet, and student loans, and still had a $220 surplus. My biggest concern was getting enough hours rather than the wage itself, and increases in minimum wage are known to reduce hours to compensate.

Most people who argue for the minimum wage are talking about federal, as in every single state. But even on the local scale, the benefits of raising the minimum wage are dubious. It always comes with a cost of job growth and employee hours worked except for the few companies that are able absorb it, and it's usually implemented at a time when wages are rising anyway. Most companies don't even use the minimum wage as a baseline, they use the market rate, except for businesses in low income areas who are always the ones to be hurt most by an increase. So at the worst it harms the economy, and at best it has no effect on it.

this especially. almost all places are 1k rent unless you apply to get on a waiting list for 3-5 or more years to apply for subsidized housing (eases the pain for low income earners).

Can you elaborate on this? Local businesses and franchises already accept walk-in applications, and most people have internet in their homes anyway. For those that don't, they can go to the Department of Labor where they can also file claims and do work searches there for free.

Consider this: a city needs to be affordable to the people who work those "lowly" jobs if you want them to be staffed.

No one is going to commute an hour to work at McDonald's. If your city makes housing unaffordable to minimum wage workers, you will not have minimum wage workers. Say goodbye to GameStop, Taco Bell, and all the luxuries built off the backs of the working class that you so enjoy.
