(1) his reaction to the dismemberment sounded more painful than other Jedi because he was unaccustomed to pain; no one had ever managed to seriously harm him before

That isn't what Vaapaad is in canon. Shatterpoints are not a thing in that sense.

He certainly had the coolest Lightsaber. Wouldn't be surprised if he was fucking some female Senators from time to time. Maybe he has an illegitimate child somewhere.

The fact that he found balance to harness both the light and dark sides of the force is what I find most impressive.

Now that I think about it, there haven't been any jedi that was fully on the light side (except for maybe Yoda) that could hold their own against Palpatine in a real fight.

For years he shit on Anakin, since he was just a boy. Never once accepted Anakin as a Jedi. Foolishly benched Anakin when he was the most capable and knowing person to subdue Palpatine. And instead of giving the courts a chance, broke the Jedi code and republic law.

He is, without a shadow of doubt, the single worst Jedi in the prequel trilogy.

George Lucas unequivocally stated that Mace Windu bested Palpatine.

Now, once Anakin arrived and it was all "I'm too weak, please help me," that was manipulation on Palpatine's part.

But the dude got beat.

Palpatine didn't even bother to fire up his second saber and only used the dark side at the beginning of the fight when he was able to easily kill 3 Jedi masters. He left alive the one Jedi master who never trusted Anakin.

Theres no reason to believe he had the second saber on him at the time. Plus dual wielding isnt always automatically stronger

Why wouldnt he? And ignore he only used the dark side at the beginning of the fight? You know, when he wiped out 3 Jedi masters in seconds.

Bum-rushed a notorious bounty hunter and killed him with lethal precision
Defeated Darth Sidious in combat (as confirmed by George Lucas)

Wasn't that cool in the movies tbh. His fight scene with Sidious had atrocious choreography and effects. Cool in the EU but I'd say Anakin had the most badass scenes in the PT.

To show that he is not an unbeatable foe simply because of unsurpassed skills with the Force and lightsaber combat, but because of his political manipulation and emotional deception that would make even the most sociopathic of men blush. Even when he *should* be stopped, he somehow finds a way to circumvent his demise. Which is why his return in TROS is canonically consistent.

Just because Mace Windu is awesome at Light Saber combat doesn't mean he won't have other weaknesses.

But that's what makes him realistic.

His flaws when dealing with Anakin lead to his down fall.

He could've helped shaped / molded Anakin, helped Anakin control his dark side.

But he didn't, and history is what it is.

Just because Mace Windu fell from a very high height and got his hand chopped off, doesn't mean he didn't survive.

He could be in "Hiding" like some other force masters after Order 66.

Given that Samuel L. Jackson is still alive, I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to play a "Older Mace Windu" and trained another generation of Jedi.

Maybe come back and train Rei properly.

What makes Palpatine powerful is that he's multi-faceted in his evil ways.

It's not just raw light saber skills, but also his political manuevering, manipulation of Anakin, playing both sides, ability to hide his Force amongst all the Jedi.

It's a combination of many factors that makes Palpatine so dangerous.
