Though the film we got was pretty decent I was interested in the way Feige pitched it back in 2014, as a freaky mindbending space fantasy with tinges of horror to it.

It was intended to be the pivotal film of Phase 3 in the way that Winter Soldier was the big pivotal film of Phase 2

The finished Thor: Ragnarok is still alright, but still.

I enjoyed Thor: Ragnarok, but I do think it leaned way too heavy into comedy. Marvel already had GotG for space comedy, I liked Thor as space fantasy/drama.

Yea i agree. But most people just see all the jokes and say we are wrong

It's always been weird to me that the movie that was supposed to be the darkest moment of Thors life was the one full of comedy

You can tell that at the time of Age of Ultron they still were planning to make the movie dark and serious. From that vision in AoU that Thor has.

I enjoyed it but at the same time thor cracking jokes makes no sense since asgard is literally being annihilated

If I had to guess, the shift in tone is nearly entirely because of how much TDW flopped(comparatively to the rest of the MCU) while GotG really succeeded.

The first time I watched it I thought it was a fair movie. I rewatched it the other day and it was hard to finish.

For me it's a top 3 MCU movie and I'm glad they went with the comical approach

I'm not surprised.

I enjoyed it when I watched it at the theater, but I've never felt a desire to watch it a second time.

I say that as someone who has seen the first Thor three or four times over the years.

way to many jokes, ruined the whole tone of the damn movie. it was supposed to be about the death and destruction of a literal world by a being more powerful then the MC, instead it was about 20% that with 80% stupid quips and other bad humor.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 leaned too heavily on comedy. All the moments that were supposed to be serious are quickly undercut by something comedic that is said or done.

Thor: Ragnarok only seems like it leaned too heavily on the comedy because the previous Thor films were so serious & boring.

I really disliked Ragnarok because of it's overuse of comedy. I still think TDW is the best of the three.

Ngl prior to Ragnarok I didn't much care for Thor's characterization. Found him way too stiff and boring. I get that was kind of the point in the beginning but it made him uninteresting.

It would've been a mistake imo to make Ragnarok completely dark and serious as it hammers right into the heaviness of Infinity War. Having the comedic tone brings the audience into the characters human side more, and allows greater connection. The bigger that connection, the greater the fall when Thanos snaps Loki's neck, stabs Heimdall to death, and beats the dogshit out of Banner

Who cares at that point about Surtur? Surtur is a one dimensional being that has a sole purpose, and the only antagonistic being that needed the gravity of the story at that point was Thanos.

And Taika Waititi is a funny son of a bitch.
