Im finding it hard to pull myself awayI beat the game and all missions on the normal difficulty but there is just so much more I could theoretically do, keep playing NG+ and leveling up, unlocking more and more skills, doing weapon specific missions, etc

this game is literally just more of the same of Nioh, in the absolute best way. They didnt change the formula at all but added a few more combat options so the range of viable gameplay tactics is massive.

I kind of want to keep going but at the same time I have so many games in my backlog that it doesnt make sense to pour dozens more hours into this game... but dammit I could

Love the combat in this game even though there are still a lot of dubious deaths. Like when you are in a confined space and you roll out of the way of an attack... to your own death.

I do like how you can put elements on attacks though, but they nerfed confusion

I agree there are some real bullshit deaths but I also think that death isnt all that punishing in this game. Actual deaths far outnumber the few bullshit deaths where you couldnt see an edge or something due to the camera

its great they nerfed confusion, I remember the first game became so easy in the second half because you could just wreck every boss by confusing them with onmyo magic

Its almost exact same game as Nioh 1. TN really dropped the ball.

I can't wait for the DLC next month, the first game's DLC was excellent. Also I like how the Nine-tailed Fox in Bloodshed's End was actually Tamamo-no-Mae who escaped from Byodo-In when Tokichiro released her in Nioh 2

Why try to fix what isnt broken?

they added a bunch more abilities with yokai shift and abilities, dark realm, new weapons and expanded skill trees, while keeping what was great about the original.

if you didnt like Nioh you wouldnt like 2, but not every game has to re invent the wheel

Sidenote one neat thing I noticed about the trophies

usually with games youll see the completion related trophies have real low percentages

but on this for example the collect all Kodamas trophy has been gotten by 30% of players

thats a huge number for a trophy like that, really says something about the engagement of players

I greatly enjoyed the combat additions. It's a ton of fun to play.

I've got mixed feelings about the levels. There's a lot less bullshit deaths due to fighting the level design, but the levels themselves aren't as good. Most devolve into what is essentially just a series of paths instead of the levels in the first game that encouraged a lot more exploration.

Overall, I like it more than the first one. Its really fun. I'll play the hell out of the dlc.

My overall impression was that most of the levels were more linear and less interconnected, but for the most part that just helped keep them from being confusing

the few levels that had a bunch of shortcuts and paths wrapping around in 2 ultimately ended up being very hard to navigate

I hope the new weapons we get are a bit more "normal", we went from odachi and tonfas being added in the last game to magical flying double hatchets and a wannabe Bloodborne trick weapon that turns into a scythe.
The switchglaive also killed my expectations for actually getting a naginata since that's pretty much its mid stance and the one boss that uses a naginata just has a mix of switchglaive and spear moves.

They really learned and listened from the feedback they received from the alpha/beta. Quality stuff.

I do like purity and corruption though over Earth and Wind (elements do have more utility this game).

I am just so upset that Hayabusa moves are going to be DLC when they were in the last game

Still this game did allow me to explore combat depth I didn't in Nioh.

For instance I never used Crimson Furry nor Water sword, but thanks to stacking elements on moves I use them a lot (I didn't even know they had stun).

Speaking of stun some enemies and bosses have bs armour

TN is the absolute worst company when it comes to asset reuse.

100+ dollars of dlc in doa6 that was in doa5. Really starting to think they are the laziest developers.

Hatchets were my go-to most of the game

started with kusarigama as I had in Nioh but wasnt feeling it so much this time

also spent a good chunk of time with dual swords because for some reason mastering those is a requirement to unlock a side mission (dumb that its the only weapon that had that)

I put about 160 hours into Nioh 2. I definitely had fun, but even not having played the first one I could feel that they tried overly hard to balance things in this game and I'm not a fan of that, because I felt sort weak in a way, specially after hearing what was possible with stat rolls and builds in the first game. And because that's what I enjoy most in these types of games is the progression and becoming OP. I burned out fast at the end.

The Demon Transformation mechanic in particular feels pretty lame. I like the burst counters though.

Nice I wish still had these two games on my plate to experience. Nioh 2 will take more time almost certainly.

Dual swords are good though. But I went for my own ninja built (not trying to melt people with kunai or shuriken)

Oh yeah dual swords are cool, but it just seems silly that that one weapon has a side mission tied to it, while the rest dont
