Looking at getting a compact SUV and from every source I've read the CRV is the one to get. Comparable Audis, Jags, BMWs, Jeep, they all suck and are way more expensive. What gives car manufacturers?

The CRV is dope, that's why.

My first car was a 99.

It had a picnic table.

Hondas are amazing cars. Luxury cars A) don't give performance as much attention and B) Make it nearly impossible for owners to do their own work on it, thus, forcing them to take it to the dealer and paying extra for proprietary parts.

Good choice. I went with Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and it's great. Had the SUV for 5 years now. I chose not to get Turbo since my driving doesn't require that extra boost. Either that or Honda would have been my choice. Rav4 was more money for less.

Honda Sensing is very comprehensive for standard equipment. Luxury brands package out each feature to reach the same level of safety.

Its 2020 man. Basically no one can do much on modern cars these days. The average backyard mechanic doesnt have the diagnostic tools even if he has the know how (and the average back yard mechanic might be able to build a 1980 ford from a pile of parts but thats not even relevant to working on a new vehichle).

Honda cars last forever if you maintain them right. My dads friend has plenty of Hondas from the 90s that still run smooth.

My current car is a 2010 civic with 150k miles. Still runs great. Only routine maintenance required, so I've been partial to Hondas for a while. My wife's newer Cruz just hit 100k and had already been to the shop several times for big fixes. That's why I'm trying to get her something new. Honda seems the way to go.

Eh, i can still work on my 2016 Civic. at the very least i can replace basic fluids and repair basic parts without having to use some special nintendo level screw driver.

Too bad they dumbed the si down so much after 06 tbh.

That was a legit pocket rocket, theyre a lot more toned down for the average driver now.

My wife came to the same conclusion when looking at Lexus. Why bother paying more for something that has no benefit other than "the brand" and costing more to fix up?

We ended up getting a Honda Passport, it's pretty fuckin' nice.

Crossovers are where it's at.

CVTs are typically described as soulless, but that seems more appropriate for cars with identity issues like the BMW X6.

I'll never understand the thought process of people who have no real interest in cars outside of getting from point a to point b, so take what I say with a gain of salt.

it's not that I consider everything those people do to be ruining the auto industry by adding to the sales numbers of horrible, shitty toaster vehicle, or anything.

I drive an Acura TL - a Honda product. Some of the things it has that you won't find on any US spec Honda is a 300+ hp V6 and SH-AWD (available on some Hondas, but not in the US market). The dealership experience is also a major sell for folks looking for "premium/luxury" cars.

As far as SUVs/Crossovers go, I will *never* own one as my own personal car. Might as well get a minivan if you're going to go the soccer mom look.

One problem that luxury cars as market have is that a lot of the features that use to be exclusive to them have now trickled down to the more mainstream cars. You can spec a RAV4 for example to a whopping $40k but it'll have every kind of tech you'd ever want in a car. A BMW X3 starts at $42k and won't even have half the stuff the Toyota has.

I've found that to be the most infuriating part of the jump to luxury. It's like starting over. Lexus is the only brand that seems to pack everything in at a fair price. The Level 2 lane-centering is a nice touch.

Audi? Volvo? BMW? Have to go fully loaded or stack a bunch of packages to get even half of the tech and safety features. How lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control aren't standard is stunning.

And it's not like these models are waiting for refreshes. It's very intentional unless you have a dead brand like Infiniti.

This is why non-luxury crossovers are so popular. Get all the bells and whistles, none of the crap, and maybe lose a little styling.

The problem with the German makes is that you have to spec them up by an additional $10-$20k for them to have the features you really want. That's how they nail you - a base model German car doesn't have jack **** in it.
